It all depends - has this just happened? Has the seller had enough time to reply? School holidays for a lot of people means that some sellers are away.

I hate that when it happens, BUT was the postage shown before you purchased the item ? If not, did you ask the postage cost ? If you knew the cost and agreed to buy the item, you where accepting the cost as quoted and would be a bit unfair to leave a Neg. If it was not clearly spelled out before you purchased it is a little bit different. Many sellers charge a small handling fee for packing materials and for the time and effort of dropping into the post office. Different sellers have different views of what is a fair packing & handling fee. You would be justified in leaving a one star for packing and handling costs if you feel strongly about it ( it is your choice after all ) but $6.00 P & H is still probably not the crime of the century worthy of a neg. I have the same thing happen occasionaly ( when I cant be bothered checking the post cost ) . I figure I should have asked the question before bidding and just move on. A one star does affect the sellers standing for Power seller status and will send a message that they should reconsider their fees, without causing major damage to their account. As a seller I do keep an eye on one stars and look for problems in my systems if I get a few so it does send a bit of a message.

Don't forget to include the cost of the envelope, was it an ordinary envelope or bubble mailer envelope? Sometimes people look at what the actual postage was and forget what the item was posted in forms part of the postage cost. Just a thought.

I do agree - but in the first instance would like to give the seller some chance to respond, in case it was a genuine mistake, or maybe they do charge $6 for handling, nice to be sure.

Technically by ebay standards the seller has done nothing wrong by ebay rules. Six bucks may be what most of us woulld consider high for packaging and handling fees so to give them a neg is IMO a bit of an over reaction if everything else about the transaction was OK, What you can do is mark down their postage star but you have paid exactly what you agreed to to get the item delivered to you which is exactly what you got.
