hi I am from Australia and was looking to buy something thing from the USA. the item im looking at costs just a lil over 1000 AUD. ive read that import charges are between 0-10% usually 5% for items over 1000, but on the page of the thing i want to buy, the import charges says "$271.61 (amount confirmed at checkout) ". is this a correct estimation of export charges i will have to pay?
if anyone has any experience with this please let me know.

So ebay is trple dipping. Sale of item fee's, import fees and and Paypal fees...
You obviously haven't read any of this thread, or the many others on this topic.
Paypal, not a part of eBay, get the transaction fees.
The Australian Tax Office get the GST on imports.
eBay get the fees on the sales.
It really would help if you actually understood what you are complaining about. In which case you wouldn't be complaining about triple dipping.

Hi
Why not get the purchase sent to a shipping agent and then onto Au..... Some places in states freight free within the USA.... Then the agent gives you a quote (5 actually) for DHL etc... when the goods arrive in au you pay Import Duty and GST to the legal extortionists....ATO

This thread was started 6 YEARS AGO, both eBay and Australian Government policies have changed markedly in that time.
