Is there a central website to name and shame fraudulent sellers?

The number of people selling fakes on ebay is increasing, especially in the postage stamp and coin area.


 


Ebay will do nothing.  They have probably been overwhelmed.


 


Law enforcement will do nothing except advise "don't buy from them".


 


But how to know who they are is a problem.


 


Is there a cenral register of frauds that we can look up?


 


Self help is the only option left.

'Cept PayPal is 180 days...........up from 45. Sometimes you can leave feedback via the US site if the 60 days here is up, but there is no guarantee. Even then, I think it's only a few days after, certainly not months.

A central website to 'shame sellers' would be pretty useless, in my opinion.

 

I'm a buyer like you but I'm not interested in having to search some website before i decide to buy or not from a seller on ebay. That's what the ebay feedback system is for, so it is all at a person's fingertips.

 

Plus-who is to say that one buyer's opinion on that central site you want would be valid anyway? i hate those sorts of sites. I know of one that was about teachers & a couple of the comments I saw about some people i knew were absolute rubbish, just people being vindictive because they didn't get their own way 

You could even get people who were selling things in competition with another seller trying to trash their reputation on a site like that. 

 

Bad experiences on ebay need to be treated on the spot, at the source. So if someone doesn't send an item or it is faulty, you need to directly make an ebay claim then & there to get your money back. You need to give feedback. If an ebay case doesn't go as you think it should, you probably need to ring and ask them to re-examine it.

 

There will occasionally be times when things might go bad, but it shouldn't be a regular thing. If you are finding it is, maybe have a look at whatever it is that you are buying (I haven't looked at your purchase history). It might mean that that category of things eg electronics or electricals, is best avoided. If most of the sellers are overseas, it might be time to change your strategies & try to buy from Australian sellers. Or it could be that, for whatever you are trying to buy, it is worth paying for a dearer version or different brand or whatever.

There is actually a "central website" where you can name and shame. Problem with it is, there is no rhyme or reason to it. New names are just added at the end. No alphabetical ordering, just one big mess. Given there would be easily 10,000 names on it, you could spend days going through it to see if someone who has just bought from you is on it. 

 

The other problem is, majority of the people there shouldn't be there. I clicked on 20 names and could see no issues with feedback. Feedback left for others, exceptional, feedback received, all glowing. No mention of UPI's or anything else. It was back when you could still see someone's buying history and from the feedback left, everything seemed to be paid for. 

 

Sites like that are completely pointless, as is leaving negative feedback for buyers. Neither will stop someone buying from you.

My goodness, tippy, that sounds like a complete waste of space, that website. If things aren't even in alphabetical order, who could be bothered using it? If they even knew of it in the first palce & I bet most buyers don't.

 

 

I usually just glance at a seller's recent feedback on ebay & if on the whole that is pretty good, I go ahead & buy. So far, so good, in recent years.

Hi Bon3266, the problem is also the feedback allowing time has been reduced from 3 months to 2. I have been caught out with this waiting for sellers to fix the issue and 2 of them (That I remember) delayed the process until the time ran out. Actually there was one other but he was  a bit cavalier and after 2 months I said to him  .. ..   "How would you like to be in my shoes and treated like this?" He apologised and the following week fixed me up.

 

Yeah, an unpleasent feeling to be scammed and I have been scammed badly by a few sellers. One guy in the UK I think spent the money on drugs as  others also had the same issue as me. Item not arriving. I rung him up and he was   ... . .   "Oh yeah, no problem.. Sorry I was on holiday. I'll send it this week. A month later nothing and them other people were also complaining about him.

 Well Lyndal, you've been a member since 2005 and I have since around 2002. It was changed from 90 days to 60 around 2004 - 2005 or so. I remember as that was the way it was back then.

 Sorry Padi to spoil your 2 Kudo fun at saying " I think 4channel's got his facts wrong again  ...  Ah well............................ ", but I am right! So your thinking good sir is not right here. I remember one occasion when a guy iun the US put at item in via surface mail accidentally instead of AirMail and it took just about 3 months. I put in a neutral and then followed up with a confirmation just before the 3 month expiry that the item finally arrived.

 

Please refer to the below. It was the same in Aust as it was in the US.

Ebay allowed my buyer to post negative feedback 3 months after the purse haD BEEN SHUIPPED. tHE FEEDBACK SAID THAT THE PURSE WAS NOT NEW, AND WAS DAMAGED. THE PURSE WAS PERFECT WHEN SHIPPED. THE FEEDBACK REFLECTED AN ADDRESS IN CENTRAL AMERICA...I NEVER SHIPPED IT THERE IT WENT TO JERSEY....WHAT CAN I DO HERE?

The transaction that you reecntly got a neg for was on June 23, which is just under 2  months ago, not 3.

I see you became an eBay member in 2009 padi. The 90 days feedback allowance time would have ceased 4 to 5 years before you came to ebay. If you look around, you should be able to find confirmation on what I say and realise my fact was right. *wink*
