Is this legit???

Hello,

I am very confused.

I purchased an item, that I have now been told by the seller is not in stock.......I can get a refund or wait 1 month for the item.  I chose to get a refund (Paypal).

The seller is now asking for personal details as they cannot trace the Paypal transaction by my ebay user id.  Does this sound correct???  sounds a bit dodgy to me, what should I do?

Thanks

Re: Is this legit???

Yes but the OP said they are asking for "Personal Details"

When you add account numbers with address, phone number DOB you have proof of ID.  This can gain someone access to your account by phone banking.

I know this because I know someone who this has happened to.

You are right though, just the account number will do nothing however using it as part of proof  can be used as identity theft.

the only thing anyone can do with your bank account details is make a malicious deposit

Actually, this isn't right....

If they also get hold of a lot of your details they can get a lot of things at your expense... they can even get credit cards linked to your account, change your address and take a lot of money off you.

You should never give out your details.

Do you not read the news rumplebear

Yes I do read the news...but as the OP has not been back to clarify exactly what they mean by "personal details" I think it is drawing a pretty long bow to assume the seller wants them to "clean out their bank account".

True and you are right it is a very long bow however its amasing just how far scammers will go to get what they want.

Better to be safe then sorry..... Is why I will only deal with sellers who take PP.

Re: Is this legit???

Hi again,

Firstly, thank you to everyone for all the advice.

Seller has refunded my $ through Paypal today.  I really thought this was going to be a dodgy deal, with all the confusion the seller was having for refunding.

Added to the fact that the seller had marked the item as posted, then me being advised 2 days later that they have no stock, why would they say it is posted, when it wasn't.  Sent the alarm bells ringing for me, and as others have said "better to be safe than sorry"

Now I am wondering about what feedback to give???

Thanks again.:-)

I didn't believe them either :^O;-)

Up to you, lily. Personally, as you got your $$ back, I would be inclined to not leave any feedback.

PJ would say that if you had to open a dispute, neg them.

Up to you.
