Hi all, we purchased a 43kg item that we paid an extra $72.00 for delivery. Yes, we are in a country area, and the seller is aware of this when quoting delivery, but we now find that the courier that has been forwarded the item, does not come as far as our area, and we have to do an 80kl round trip to collect our item. I would think it fair to ask for a part refund on the freight as the item was supposed to be delivered to our address, not 40ks away. This is not the first time this has happened, and we think it is pretty rude that we should be out of pocket after paying a premium delivery fee. What do the board members think? Many thanks.

Your fight is with the courier company, not with the seller.
If the seller was given a quote by the courier to deliver to your address then he has in good faith paid the company for that delivery.
Have you asked the seller what exactly he supposedly paid for?
The usual system is if a company gets a delivery for an area that they do not deliver to they offload the item to another company.

Thanks Lyndal, but my contract is with the seller, who has charged me, not the courier company. I didn't pay any money to the courier company, so they won't debate the issue with me. I think it's up to the seller to get it fixed as he is the one who has my money. Who he passes it on to is his business.

you are 100% correct you dealt with the seller not the courier company contact the seller and get them to investigate, as he hired them not you , in fact you prob dont even know who the company was while the parcel was getting delivered.

Then fight it out with the seller if you are so sure that he paid for door to door delivery...that is what I suggested in the first place.
If he did pay for door to door delivery then he may be able to get it delivered to you but you are more likely to get satisfaction by going to the courier direct.
What company are we talking about here?

Allied Express was the first to handle it, then it went to an on forwarding courier who dropped it short of our destination. We have just collected it with an 80kl trip that I am going after some compensation for. Seveny odd bucks is not to be forgoten about. Seller has yet to reply.

Now that you have collected it there is zero chance of getting any sort of refund unless the seller is prepared to come to the party.
If you had contacted Allied before picking it up they would probably have put pressure on the offload courier to actually deliver it. I hope you put in a complaint to Allied as they have always been known in the industry for delivering, even if it is an item handed to another carrier. That is quite common practice btw, when the delivery is for an out of the way area. The big companies give items to a local area courier.

I am curious did you tell the seller you have had problems getting deliveries in the past?

We had to collect it asap as the business that they dropped it off to is only allowing them to leave things there as a service to their customers who may live out of town, they dont want to stock pile parcels.
