get in contact with ebay and ask why cancelled then get them to inform paypal. no wait.
The item had ended(obviuosly, because you had paid). Ebay cant cancel I dont think. Try contacting seller and ask when they are going to post item.
difficult one....

I suspect Paypal's response was because you opened the dispute too early. Although they're supposed to know when an eBay listing is cancelled by eBay. Give it a few days, then try again.
If no joy then, ask here for further advice.

did you get a message off ebay about the cancelled listing through your EBAY MESSAGES? or was it your other email addy?
Did you log into paypal through the PAYPAL website or did you click on a link through your email message?
Im suspecting a scam. Ebay dont usually cancel listings once the listing has ended and have been paid for!
Be safe.... Go to Paypal using the paypal website and change your password. Run a virus scan.

Yes they do. I bought somerhing from Hong Kong a while ago and found that the listing was removed due to policy violation, I was informed by ebay if I hadn't paid for the item then I was not obliged to pay.. The item did arrive, turns out it was due to a trademark issue

What was the item? There are some things that are not covered by Paypal buyer protection. If it was not an excluded item then ring Paypal up and ask why you are unable to open a dispute.

Try opening a dispute through Paypal, if theres no luck, try calling Paypal up and making a claim through there, they will probably be best at explaining the situation than us.
