Items smell very strongly of Mothballs/ naphthalene

Hi everyone, I bought a set of suitcases from a seller that I has purchased from before with no problems.

this time however, there is an incredibly strong smell of mothballs in the suitcases. I have opened them up and aired them outside for a day, (inconvenient because the dog needs to be kept away from them ) but the smell is still so strong it is making my eyes water and my nose run.

Live googled and it says to use Lavender oil to get rid of the smell, but the problem is that 1. I don't have any at hand and 2. I was hoping to use the suitcases for my holiday next week. But there is no way the smell will be gone by then and there is no way I'm putting my clothes and personal things in those very stinky suitcases.

The seller has suggested airing them out, which is what I've already tried.

What is a good solution? My previous purchase of suitcases from this seller had no mothball smell and were able to be used immediately, this new lot is making me feel sick!!

I have lemon oil and orange oil sprays for my chopping boards, which - combined with a slab of beeswax - keep the boards looking beautiful and are food-safe. The orange oil also seemed like a great choice with Christmas coming up; I associate the scent of oranges with Christmas, especially if I also have the smell of Christmas pudding, German gingerbread, and cinnamon mingling with the background sharp freshness of fir trees.

No moth balls for Christmas, not even if they're painted glittery gold and silver and hung on a Christmas tree. No mosquito coils either - I've got my eye on a Thermacell Cambridge Mosquito Repellent Patio Shield Lantern, which I will have to buy from the US because even though Thermacell do sell mosquito repellent lanterns here, they are very matter-of-fact and functional in design, rather than the prettier-looking Cambridge model. (Is there a perception that Australians just want to get on with the business of repelling mosquitoes functionally and couldn't care less about how the repellent device looks?)

Hopefully there will be no bisons wandering in to my home. I have never seen a bison repellent lantern.

countess, that's playing with fire telling me things like that (drools). I think I'll need to have a look at my Damascus Steel Japanese knives now and work out which ones to use in my Yuletide culinary preparations.

For that period between Christmas and New Year I may just prepare some of my famous Garam Masala - now there's an aroma that will have culinary aficionados melting away into dreamlike state.

It also repels Mosquito's, Horses, Bison and even small herds of Yak - and will, after a short period of time, nullify the aroma of Napthaline.

Note that using Padi's Authentic Garama Masala in suitcases may cause mass hysteria within crowded areas.

Spoiler
Due of course to the mass exodus of said Horses, Bison and  small herds of Yak in the vicinity.

I have just checked the dimensions of the oven, padi.

It's just not big enough for a roast bison, let alone a stuffed roast bison.

If your garam masala brings a herd of bison and yaks thundering into my pantry, that's it! I'll tell them to leave on pain of having to fill out my next year's tax return.
