Sorry Lyndal. No GST on postage fvf's
And what a convoluted post by woodduck.
Maybe woodduck should read up on the Netflix tax. Ebay is already collecting it.

Not totally relevant but is this a sign of the times? I recently bought (not through eBay) several items of new clothing from a big UK online firm. When they arrived the accompanying customs declaration read; "Return of faulty goods - no duty to pay."

Sorry, stawks, as noted elsewhere, eBay do charge GST on postage FVF. As you've admitted you sell everything with 'free' postage, you might not have been aware. Those of us who do know different.

I can explain that ele.
A very long time ago I had the return a damaged item to a UK seller for a refund.
It was sent off with the appropriate documentation, registered and insured etc. When it arrived back in the UK I notified the seller who said he did not have it and refused to refund. This went on for over a week then eventually the seller grudgingly refunded.
I thought no more about it until 4 months later the package arrived back here via seamail with stamps all over it indicating that the seller had declined to pay the duty owing. Apparently it was over the allowable threshold and there was nothing indicating that it was a return.
I guess UK sellers have learned the hard way and now make sure that any returns are not lumbered with duty.

Is any product gst free from other countries still
Not if you buy through eBay, but if you buy directly from someone overseas and they don't sell more than $75,000 a year to Australia and the item isn't over $1,000 (where the original duty applies), then no GST is payable.
