Just received a ebay scam phone call claiming that $299 was just spent and if it was not me press 1?

Just received a a call from ebay saying something about a purchase for $299.00 but hung up before anything else was said.  I blocked the number.   I knew it was a scam call.  I have no outstanding purchases or deliveries and I had another similar one the other day too!

I get SMSs every day about eBay, Amazon purchases, FedEx and DHL deliveries pending or missed.

They are all from numbers I can't reply to, with links to tiny URLs, so obviously scams.

I don't feel a need to alert the community to them because I consider the community members have a couple of braincells to rub together.

Nicole from the NBN or Telstra or whatever loves us, has called several times. It's a recorded message but all the same, we just hang up.

The bottom line is the taxation department, Telstra, ebay, Amazon etc are not going to ring you demanding money or offering money. They are all scam calls. They are counting on hitting the jackpot sometimes with someone who may have made a purchase and so might get worried. But whether you've bought something from ebay (Amazon etc) in the recent past or not, just hang up.

I Just received a ebay scam phone call claiming that $200 was just spent and if it was not me press 1 or speak to a rep press 2, I pressed 2 and and told the guy that i was sick of scammers and was going to track them down and kill all of them? he hung up. Why doesn't the government do something about all these scammer calling and sending tex messages every day sometimes three a day. I am sure with all their resources and technology the government could track them down and put an end to this criminal activity?

Don't press 1.

Don't press 2.

Don't press anything.

Don't engage with the scammers.

Don't threaten to kill them.

They know your number and your name, and it's not difficult for them to get your address (assuming they don't already have that). All that you do by making threats is getting on the bad side of a criminal who may decide to set the automatic dialling of their VoiP service to call your phone number again and again and again and again and again, with cycling different spoofed numbers so that you haven't a single number to block. The scammer may decide to bombard your email address with many different types of email scam. SMS scams may come your way.

DON'T ENGAGE, DON'T CONFIRM, DON'T DENY: SAY NOTHING.

Hang up.

There was a brilliant doco last week on Channel seven showing a large room in Calcutta India showing hundreds of callers doing exactly what you have described.  Many thousands here and o/seas have lost many millions by engaging with these low idiots.    If you get a call from a number you dont know why bother wasting your time.  The more time you spend on the phone the more time they have to gather your info.  If it is someone genuine who needs to speak to you they will leave a message describing the reason for the call.  Your destiny is in your own hands.

Just  received a call from woman who asked for me by my name claiming to be from Ebay help centre regarding a purchase I supposedly made for $290..The call came from phone number REMOVED at 11.05am today 18/7/2022..It was very suspect.I thanked her for calling me & promptly informed her that my son is a Fraud Squad Investigator who handles everything for me & I would get him to phone her back immediately..I asked what number should he call back on & she promptly hung up..HOW DO THESE SCAMMERS GET MY NAME ? PLEASE BEWARE OF EBAY IMPERSONATORS.
