No, if you didn't press anything and didn't give them any information yourself. They basically have nothing but your phone number. They don't even know if you really have an eBay account. It is people who give them all their information.

Best reaction is to hang up. Just hang up.

@lyndal1838 wrote:I hope you did not press 1......if you did you have just confirmed to the scammers that they have found an active phone number.
it warms my heart that the advice given by lyndal1838 has stood the test of time and is as relevant today as it was the day she posted here.
I miss lyndal

Simply by answering or not answering is confirmation of an active phone number.
It goes through to ring - it's active.

I discovered after a year or so that I was no longer on it and was told that it is not unusual for this to happen.
great advice from lyndal

Yes… I bear in mind that when a phone call is not answered, the scammers do not know if the owner of the number
• is alive
• is contactable through that number
• is able to be engaged
• is scammable, and/or
• has an eBay or Amazon account (for example) and thus could possibly be scammed using those relevant scripts.
I cannot help giving away my non-deceased status if I answer a call that turns out to be a scam call… so I will at least give away nothing else by ending the call immediately.
Yes, lyndal is missed on these boards.
(Back in the days when I had a little fun with scammers, I would — no, I shouldn’t be giving away my naughty past…)
