Just received a scam? call saying I had been charged $300+ for an iPhone which would be dispatched i

I just received a scam? phone call saying that I had been charged $300+ for an iPhone which would be dispatched within 24 hours.  If I did not place this order I was told to press #1 to speak to eBay customer service.  I then hung up, but if I proceeded I have no doubt I would have been asked to provide paypal, credit card or other information.   Please alert everyone to this scam.   By the way - I DID NOT BUY AN iPHONE!

You, yourself have alerted people reading here

Other members have also already posted other topics about the same scam

Yes, it is a very common scam, along with the iTunes gift card one

Not really related to eBay at all though, just one of those auto-dialing set ups

People who do not have and have never used eBay get the same call

Ummmm, yeah it is related to eBay, because the people are being told it's a call about an eBay purchase. Yes, people who aren't on eBay get these calls too, so would immediately assume it's a scam, or a wrong number, but plenty of eBay members are getting the calls too. Some may well have bought an iPhone. So yeah, it is relevant to eBay.

Ok

We can agree to disagree on that one

Some non eBay people would also go right ahead anyway to see what happens, or to 'sort it out' , like people  do with other scams when they get an email from 'a bank' they have never been with a click the link anyway

That's why I never answer a call from a number I don't know - if they really want me, they'll leave a message

I just had the exact phone call a moment ago, (13/07/21 @ 1600).  Automated voice with a cost of $290 charged to my account for a product from ebay.  If I didn't purchase the product,  then press one now. I just hung up!

Very glad to hear you did not press one, many people do (including people who know it is a scam but press anyway to 'see what happens'

One such person even came on the forum and abused members  here after doing so, for letting eBay let them do it

And sadly the reason they keep doing it,  there are people (clowns) around who believe them and give them their bank details.

I can safely say this as my sister fell for the same scam (not this one) twice, in 6 months.   You can choose your friends, but not your relatives.
