Lack of Business Integrity

I mentioned in another thread that I have a handful of trusted and reputable Chinese sellers that I’ve purchased from many times over the years. They are wonderful, personable and honest people to deal with. However I recently had cause to step outside that tested and trusted comfort zone to purchase from another Chinese seller, with disastrous results.

It’s a long convaluted story that I won’t trouble you all with here, but as much as I hate doing it, yesterday I left my first neg feedback for a seller. The first time in 18 plus years. Oh, I’m not the first, he’s got a bit before me, but he’s a big seller and on balance didn’t look that bad - plenty of good feedback, but?

Chinese sellers really are getting right out of hand here on eBay, certainly if the conduct of this fellow with me, is anything to go by, and we keep reading about it. Little though, seems to be done by eBay to remedy the issues. Although my issue was sorted very quickly, but as would be expected in the face of such blatant disregard and dishonesty. So, here’s just another Aussie family who will never, ever buy from a Chinese seller again, no matter how attractive the offering looks.

There’s not a racist bone in my body, but boy I tellya, I’m not feeling too warm and fuzzy towards anyone Chinese at the moment.

Come on eBay, start cleaning the place up a bit!! It might even bring dividends if you gave tenure to just one staff member to read these forums and get some idea of what’s happening in your own business.

I have never bought from China on ebay as you get or don't get what you pay for.

But I have purchased products made in China from other outlets and was happy with them.

Ebay has rules for Chinese sellers and rules for the rest and as long as the fees are coming in then ebay turn a blind eye.

We shouldn't be worried to much about the Chinese on ebay but rather that they are trying to become world leaders if the story on one of those current affair shows has anything to go by lol.

Melina, I'm sorry that you had a first bad experience with a Chinese seller.

(To be honest, I wouldn't have bought that item. Electronic items and Chinese eBay sellers are a match made in hell... But at least you did get the problem resolved quickly!)

There are great Chinese sellers out there, but so many poor sellers that it taints the whole group in reputation, at least.

Yes, that’s this issue Countess. It reflects badly on all of us really, Chinese or not.

The actual product is an exceptionally good one. We’ve bought three now over the years. My usual supplier couldn’t give me the colour I wanted, hence my shift outside my Chinese ‘comfort zone.’ Never again!

Quick version: I bought and paid for the item. About 14 days later I receive a message from the seller saying, ‘Sorry, being returned to us cuz no can find you.’ I messed about with local post, distribution centre, local courier etc., but there was no sign of it. Seller refunded. I enquired about re-ordering. I couldn’t get black anywhere else. “Do you definitely have stock of the colour black?’ Answer, ‘Yes, yes we do. Black in stock. Re-order please. We send fast, sorry about other one.’ I suppose most wouldn’t have re-ordered, but I decided to give him the benefit of the doubt. I re-ordered.

Less than a week later I receive the same message as the first, ‘Dear friend, you must check address. No find you. They sending item back to me.’ Words to that effect. Now, I’m not the shiniest penny, but I twigged straight away this time - not enough time lapse for it to have hit the beaches here in the first place, and then on second thought, most likely not the first one either.

The rest is just all about bad behaviour, lies, backtracking and all that goes with the type of seller this one obviously is. And outlandishly a claim that one of the items was unpaid for, despite eBay and PayPal records. Once this hit the deck I let eBay sort it out. They did, quickly.

So, in all there was a fair bit of corro between me and the seller, prior to eBay stepping in and even though I struggled with the red issue, I thought no, other buyers need to know, so I went ahead. Again, outlandishly his own response to that feedback was to suggest I should have been in contact with him. Clever, don’t you think? Sly, but clever nonetheless. Future buyers are still left in a quandary.

Lots of valuable time wasting on my part on behalf of the seller, trying to locate the item, emails back and forth etc., but lesson learned - stay within the comfort zone and very sadly, ‘Don’t trust Chinese Sellers. They will burn you.’

And honestly Dear Countess, that is indeed the short version. This bloke had more moves than you see on a billiard table .... lol.

Gawd! I’d better do some work for a change. Hope you are all healthy and happy 🙂

Some of the craft categories are now so flooded with Chinese junk (many in breach of copyright) that it's really hard to sell some things now. A lot of them are Chinese people living in Australia but the problem is still the same. One person is blatantly selling illegal copies of cross stitch charts and they manage to get any negs removed. Ebay doesn't care because they're making lots in fees (unless they list when there's a fee-free promo).

Frankly, I don't trust many sellers at all on ebay now, regardless of their nationality! They have to have exceptional feedback before I'll buy anything, and casual sellers I'm very wary of because so many of them are incompetent.

You could leave follow-up feedback to the seller's reply - something like "Many comms with seller; untruths & failure to resolve. Tried to avoid [insert what he tried to avoid doing]." That would clarify that you were in contact with the seller, contrary to his claim...

I know what you mean; I've seen that category and have cringed.

One of my hobbies is electronics and I have bought a few things from Asian sellers here on ebay and its been a failure most times (There are some good sellers) so I now buy from another site that is  only Chinese sellers and I have never had a problem. Even the post seems faster when I buy on that site . There are some good Asian sellers out there but when it comes to ebay - very very few of them are on here!
