in a couple of months iv'e had two messages from Ebay (i dont think it was really them) saying iv'e missed out on items iv'e bid on. My bid was unsucessful, ect.

I got my 2nd message today saying iv'e missed out on a car charger.

I cant find any reference to it at all in "MyEbay" or in my messages. The email header was from ebay@ebay.com. Ebay help say if there isnt a second copy in MyEbay messages then its a Phising email ,what ever that means? (fake?)

There was never a second copy in MyEbay messages. anyone else have the same experience??

I get all my notifications in my private email inbox, never in ebay messages.

Is there anything different about these to make you suspicious of them?

Luckily I never got anything suspicious, at least since I came back (I have been inactive for a long time, maybe I just deleted such messages, I don't remember exactly).

But yes, I read on this board you should NOT click on any link in such messages if they say you have missed out on an item and you know you didn't place a bid.

If the emails are asking you to click on a link ans sign in on them then they are scam emails.

DO NOT click on any links as ebay and paypal will not ask you to vclick on a link that you need to sing in with.

Delete them

Then send them to spoof@ebay.com or ignore them.

I'll warrant if you hover your mouse over the URL it won't be ebay@ebay.com either.

So why didn't you say so in the OP?

If you did not bid on the items of course they are spoof emails.

The email header was from ebay@ebay.com.

I bet it doesn't really - it just says that in the FROM field, which is just plain text that the user can choose what they type. The ACTUAL headers will show you where it really came from.

You can get them analysed here: http://www.mxtoolbox.com/emailheaders.aspx

There's a link on that page on how to get the "real" headers.

If most messages dont go to My Messages, then whats this mean:

If you're suspicious about an email that claims to be from eBay, sign in to My eBay and click the Messages tab. If you don't see the same message there, the email is fake.

There is a difference between messages and notifications. Notifications of items won, outbid notices and so on will go to your email inbox.

Messages are anything else that ebay may want to send to you for whatever reason.
