Non-Genuine Rolex 6538 (James Bond) Big Crown Submariners - BEWARE!!

In recent weeks there have been at least 4 Non-Genuine Rolex 6538 Big Crown Submariners put up for auction.

The listing heading and description is very carefully worded to give the impression that they are the genuine article, which they are not. At no time do the sellers state clearly that they are not a genuine 6538.

These watches are cobbled together from non-Rolex components, usually sourced from Asia, and a 1030 calibre movement from a much cheaper 1950s Rolex such as a Rolex 6564.

While a genuine Rolex 6538 Big Crown Submariner usually fetches about $100,000+ (see Chrono24.com), these "Frankenwatches" can be assembled for as little as $2,000 - $4,000, movement included. But buyers are paying between $7,000 and $10,000. One is even on a "Buy Now" for A$30,000, and it doesn't even have a 1030 calibre movement!

These sellers may, or may not, be operating with eBay rules, but they are not operating with transperency or in the spirit that is expected by the eBay community.

I would strongly suggest that if you wish to buy one of these watches, you do your homework and understand exactly what you are what you are about to bid on.

Re: Non-Genuine Rolex 6538 (James Bond) Big Crown Submariners - BEWARE!!

I am not belittiling your concern or 4 or 5 Rolex watches but some of us have been trying to stop thousands of fake Tiffany, LV, Chanel, Hermes and fake sterling silver and gold jewellery being sold every year.

Ebay is not a safe place to buy certain brands and items and while 5 Rolex watches might be $100,000 worth to a seller the other brands are probably into the millions.

Buyers buy through greed to have something for the fraction of the cost of what they know it really should sell for, they will give the excuse of not knowing they were buying a fake but we all know that is very rarely the case.

For something to be so rare as to be selling for $100,000 who genuinely thinks that the 4 or 5 listed on ebay at the same time will be genuine?

Reporting a fraudulent listing to eBay doesn't mean they will withdraw the item - I've reported to eBay items blind freddie could tell were fake & not one has been cancelled by ebay - so that team of employees they claim to have searching listings for suspect goods supposedly protecting we buyers, and/or honest sellers r either asleep on the job or they should have chosen another career path. When eBay chose to code buyers names in feedback it removed the ability of other ebayers to suggest to the new owner it would be prudent to have their new purchase authenticated.
