Out of stock ??

Are "out of stock" items allowed to be listed ?

There are many listings which state "out of stock" just curious..

eg,

252293715137 $999.99

262324863180 $999.99.

eBay's policies are actually very clear on this - and the answer is no.

The out of stock feature was introduced to combat this, but many sellers don't seem to know it exists. (I personally wouldn't bother policing this policy on eBay's behalf - at best I might conact the seller and tell them about the OOS feature, if I had an indication they might not know about it).

http://pages.ebay.com.au/help/policies/listing-no-item.html

If you expand "Listings with no items", this shows under 'Not Allowed' :

Listings that are out of stock but left active, often with a drastically increased price to prevent purchases.

And you really think that I or anyone else would actually buy it?

Please why would you get so excited about it as there is no way in hell the sale would be completed.

The one time I went along with it was to see what would happen,as if any seller would or should expect the transaction to go through.

Just shows what kind of seller you might be doesn't it thinking you could sell something for $3000 when it's worth $30 lol.

And it equally shows what sort of buyer you are to even think of trying something like that.

That little exchange tells me a lot more about you than it does about Jensmanchester.

I was not getting excited as it is something I have never done and would never do. I was basically showing that it would be possible for a seller to source an item from somewhere so it would still be possible for a seller to supply an item even if they themselves were currently out of stock.

With ebay penalising sellers with a defect if they sell an item which is out of stock there might be some sellers who will make every effort to try and supply an item which had been sold and paid for even if they have clearly indicated they have no stock.

Just making a point that ebay shouldn't allow sellers to up the price just because they are out of stock,if you're out of stock then

that's it.

So you can tell what kind of buyer I am instead of what kind of seller would up the price.well I'm not the one that if they got

a chance to rip a buyer off they would then try it like jen said she would try and find an item just to sell it at a high price anyway.

And then later says the she wouldn't do it.

So ripping a buyer off is less serious than I trying to prove a point is it?

Well you're wrong there lyndal.

You're angry at me because I wouldn't actually pay $3000 for a $30 item come on seriously lol.

But you're ok with a seller receiving $3000 for a $30 item WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes of course but only at the original price and not $$$ more than what an item costs.

This just **bleep** me off inflating prices just because out of stock.

List it at the correct price even if out of stock and if it sells then the buyer knows they will receive it when it's back in stock simple.

I agree it can be annoying to see the inflated price. If something shows though as out of stock, then in my opinion it should be impossible to complete a transaction.

If I go on Catch of the day, I can't buy any of their sold out items, the system won't let me, so it wouldn't be that hard for ebay to put some similar technology in place.

I must say, I was surprised, not so much at you 'buying' an item at an inflated price, but more by you actually paying $3k.

There is no way on earth I would have done that.

How could you be certain that the seller had not just that very day taken delivery of new stock?

No one had twisted your arm to pay the price, if it was clearly listed then it could be argued the seller would be fullfilling his side of the contract by sending the item. You may say the seller would be unethical. t is a debatable point but in any case, some are! With no guarantee ebay would refund you.

Put it this way, I would not have been putting my $3k on the line.

Sellers who up the price are breaking ebay policy so it is not allowed by ebay and if reported the listing will most probably be removed by ebay.

Just to clarify once more - I have never done it and I never would do. As a seller it annoys me no end when others do it as it does not make it a good buying experience for buyers. I was just demonstrating that it could be done - perhaps I should have put a smiley face or something at the end but those who know me are well aware I was being facetious.

For all you know there could be a buyer out there who is willing to pay $3000 for a $30.00 item if it is a rare and hard to find item or if it something they just have to have regardless of price (There are some very wealthy people out there that would consider $3000 a pittance). Personally I will never know if there is because I woudn't be listing a $30.00 item for that price.

I agree with you totally and yes I took the chance just to make a point and if it back fired then I would of course had

a battle on my hand getting my money back, that said it was a seller was honest enough to do the right thing as I explained

to them what I was trying to do and I'm glad that they understood why I did it.

I spoke to ebay about this and that it should be done exactly the way you have mentioned, but I'm probably reaching for the stars

on this issue also.
