I just got a payment notification from PayPal - the usual thing.
You sent a payment of $14.88 AUD to seller id. It included an item number.
I have NOT BOUGHT THAT ITEM. Is this a spoof email? OR has someone hacked my PayPal? I checked and the payment is not on my Paypal account yet.
It came from services@inc-paypal.com.au. Is that a valid paypal email?

You will find on the spam paypal emails, that they dont mention your name or address, like the real ones do, that is another way of telling you they are spam.
Paypal told me they were looking into it.

When I receive fake emails, I hover the mouse over the link and check the details of the link. If it is fake, I would forward onto spoof@ebay.com or spoof@paypal.com. If the email looks genuine, I go to the site directly and investigate further.
I forward every one of these on to either ebay or paypal to help keep us all safe from these scammers.

Wouldn't the trading boards be a better place for your query?

It doesn't hurt to let CS know too Am.

Anywhere is OK to alert people of phishing spoof emails

Maybe not new to you am*3, but it may be new to someone else.
If it alerts people to a scam I am all for it

The OP is familar with all the boards, makes me wonder why he chose CS for an ebay related topic... paypal, seller id...
Buyers reading the Buyers board would benefit from this information.

Have you ever thought that it may be a way of alerting other as a warning not to fall for a scam?
I too got the same email and I have checked it and it is a definite scam.
