Paypal Disputes and Negative Feedback

Hi All,

BACKGROUND

I purchased a brand new phone on ebay recently (old model - galaxy s2 - but advertised as brand new)

It had a number of issues including

- battery died completely after single full charge and discharge (confirmed by Samsung store and phone repair shop) so I had to get a new battery.

- phone and wireless reception was terrible, dropping out of calls randomly in strong signal areas etc. on Telstra network and always underperforming against the same model of phone in the same location in terms of wireless signal and phone network reception.

I've opened up a dispute through eBay / subsequently through Paypal and after trying a number of fixes, the seller has agreed to a return and new replacement.

Since purchasing, I've noticed this seller has a decent number of negative feedback responses regarding phones, so I've lost confidence in them.

I'm nearing the time limits for eBay feedback (end of the week is 60 days) and for escalation of Paypal to a claim. Phone took quote a while to ship which delayed the process. I've just shipped the phone back by tracked normal post which will also take time and push me outside the feedback windows.

QUESTION

Should I leave negative feedback and revise later on seller request when things are fully resolved?

I assume I should also copy all the ebay correspondence into Paypal and escalate to a claim before my window runs out.

i.e. It could still be a month before I know whether this is resolved by the time my returned goods make it back to seller and they ship a new one.

Any advice from experienced ebayers? I've never had to leave negative feedback before from memory.

I'd love to just cut my losses and get a full refund from the seller, appreciating I'll lose the return postage and possibly replacement battery costs ~$65 together, but I assume this is up to the Seller and terms.

Item #171368892801 for reference.

Re: Paypal Disputes and Negative Feedback

You should have escalated to a claim before returning and paypal would have given you the address and method required to return.

But, so long as you keep the proof of postage, that may suffice to paypal - escalate to a claim NOW, don't wait.

Also, you should have forced a refund.....that would have been immediate (or should have been) upon the receipt of your returned item, now they are stringing you along hoping you will wait for the replacement.

I would leave Neg FB on day 58 (you don't want the seller to make life more difficult than it may turn out to be) but you can't afford to wait for the replacement.

Meant to ask Where was the item from ?

Re: Paypal Disputes and Negative Feedback

Robert, you see this sort of problem all the time on here.  The Sellers stall you & make excuses all the time. Do not let them play with you at all and if you have to, leave them a Big Red Negative.  I hope this doesn't appear rude, but why would  anyone buy a phone from OS in the 1st place ? Go to a local B & M store and purchase one from there and if anything goes wrong, you can take it back.

If the item had to be posted back to HK how did you manage to do so? If you properly recorded on the customs form what it was you would not have been able to send it using Aus Post.

I'm sure that I heard somewhere that phones purchased from OS don't work in Australia.

That's funny because I bought the phone I am using to post this from Hong Kong in eBay

Re: Paypal Disputes and Negative Feedback

Most phones will work anywhere in the world, there is one type of US phone that only works there though.

Problem with most phones from Asia is that they are fakes and not particularly well made. The exhorbitant cost of sending them back overseas by a specialist courier is usually more than the phone cost in the first place. It is not advisable to buy anything containing a lithium batttery from overseas because none of them can be returned using AP

I think what you meant to say PJ was that "none of them can legally be returned using AP". Smiley Indifferent

Re: Paypal Disputes and Negative Feedback

I too have bought a new samsung S5 this year it came from Hong Kong as I bought it through Kogan, I would highly recommend if you are going to buy phones over from overseas that you make sure you do your homework. As many people have been caught buying phones that don't support Australian networks. Yes we are slowly catching up to the rest of the world but everytime we get close, vodafone in Europe discovers & invents a new form of technology and distributes it across Europe. America then follows and a year or 2 later we finally think oh we better do something about this! (Hence why all of Australia doesn't have 4G still!)

So purely for the above reason never buy a phone that doesn't have a decent return policy. As for the new battery you purchased don't give that back to them just take it out and sell it on Ebay someone will eventually want it and you will get some of  your money back. Also make it a claim through Paypal asap. This all sounds very non-geniune as I have had a Samsung S2 before my new Samsung S5 and they are really good phones never had any of the issues you are talking about. Get a full refund and cut your losses. Check out Kogans prices for one or even check out millennius, electronicbazaar or becextech all very good online companys for tech stuff that will save you $$$.

Good Luck!
