I am having problems with Paypal. I tried to buy something but was blocked at the paypal checkou.t It basically is demanding that I change my valid shipping address which is a Post Office box to a street address. I do not want to do this as all of my bank statements and mail always goes to my post office address. I live in apartments and for security reasons no mail gets delivered there. Any suggestions?

Perhaps have it delivered to where you work?
Or to a friend?

It is not PayPal that wants you to change the address it is the seller.
They may be using a courier service which cannot deliver to PO boxes.

I agree with BBS, it's not paypal's doing. I have had a PO Box as my address for years without a problem.
Message your seller and tell them that unless they can send the item to your PO box they will have to cancel the sale.

it's not the seller at fault here. it's the ebay/paypal checkout that is. i do not need to change my shipping address to a street address which is what it is asking me to do.

You have to be careful, once you have a paypal account, you will become a slave, they take your money willy, nilly and all transactions have to go through them.

It is not ebay or paypal. The seller has decided for whatever reason that they will not send to a PO Box. Their account has been set up to reject payments where the address is a PO Box.
You will have to change your address if you want to buy this item.

If you want to purchase from a seller who does not post to PO boxes, you definitely DO need to change your postage address. As Lyndal said, nothing to do with eBay or Paypal; everything to do with the seller.

Thank you for your reply to my query. The seller is in the US and I emailed them about why my PO address was not being recognised as a valid address. They said it was ebay and not them that was doing it.
