I am writing to report a serious issue regarding a counterfeit product I purchased on eBay. Below are the purchase details:
I recently purchased the same product from a reputable pharmacy retail showroom and discovered that the one I received through eBay was fake. The counterfeit product appears to be a cheap cream packaged convincingly to mimic the original Cerave brand.
After using the eBay-purchased product for the past two months, I began developing serious health issues. This prompted me to verify its authenticity, which confirmed my suspicion of it being counterfeit.
This situation has raised concerns not only for my health but also for the safety of other buyers, as I noticed a large number of similar products being sold by this seller.
I kindly request that eBay investigates this matter urgently, contacts the seller, and takes appropriate action to prevent further sales of such counterfeit products. if you require any additonal info please do let me know.
Please inform me of the actions eBay will take to address this issue and ensure such incidents do not recur. I look forward to your prompt response.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.

I think all the talk of feedback % is, to a large extent, irrelevant.
ar-933046 is going to be like most new buyers and anything in the 90s is going to look okay at first glance.
And even at second glance, if they click on feedback, they are going to see a sea of positives at first.
I tried it and all of the last 3 sellers show that, with not a neg in sight at that stage.
They are all listed as ebay's most reputable sellers. Each has sold many thousands of items.
Even that big retail store, chemist warehouse only has a score of 98.7%
So we can talk of 99.5% till the cows come home, we are singing to the choir.
ar's issues are
she bought a fake product,
she expects ebay to do something about it,
she expects ebay to let her know what action they take.
Ar-933046, I'm sorry but you're going to lose in all 3 areas.
1. You bought in Oct 2024. You have 30 days after the arrival of a product in which to lodge an ebay claim for item not as described. You've missed that opportunity to get a refund.
Ebay is flooded with fake products. Ebay doesn't write the ads, it doesn't guarantee the products, it won't do anything unless it is legally forced to. This could amount to, for example, a company taking them to task or a government ruling on some product coming into effect.
The home of fake products is China but there's nothing to say you won't get a fake off an Australian seller either. If getting a genuine item matters to you, you will need to go to a licensed distributor or a proper shop.
2. Ebay probably won't do a thing about it. It's your word against the seller's. How would you even prove the item you say is fake is the one that the seller sent? I am not doubting you, but ebay would be in a position of not knowing for sure. I guess if you had certified papers to say the item was fake and you had the backing of the company, then maybe the seller might wwithdraw that particular item but not all the 'similar' products.
3. Ebay won't tell you what actions they take against another person or company. They claim privacy concerns. So you'll never get an answer on that one.

It seems the product was a pharmacy type item. You'd probably be safe enough getting the genuine product from chemist warehouse online or else go into a shop.
Just be very wary of ebay with what you buy, do click in specifically to the neg feedback if you can, don't necessarily believe ebay's spiel about high volume sellers being 'reputable' and don't believe most warranties offered by sellers on ebay.
