Reserve not met.

As a buyer I am not at all happy to know sellers can and do put a reserve on their auctions unbeknown to bidders. Yes, a form of shill bidding IMO. Should not be allowed. Reserves on a vehicle as happens now I have no problem with. Undisclosed reserves probably explain when on occasions when I've placed a bid on an item and there's been no other bidder showing up in bid history that my max bid straight away is outbid or way up. NOT right.

sprinklespowerpuff Reserves are not hidden or undisclosed, they are there on the listings on sites which allow them.

Thanks Angel but I don't understand as I read in a previous post on this thread that if item is listed on the .com site then what I was saying can happen.

Sorry I may have misunderstood what you meant. ๐Ÿ˜ž

From your comments about bidding "probably explain when on occasions when I've placed a bid on an item and there's been no other bidder showing up in bid history that my max bid straight away is outbid or way up" I thought you meant that you didnt know there was a reserve until after you bid.

Reserve listings on other sites they work exactly as they do on the motors listings here, it's clear that there is a reserve (though you dont know what that reserve is).

Angel from what I understood from Bsal's post there is no way for the bidders to know the seller has placed a reserve - there's nothing showing up as there being a reserve price on the listing at all. Sorry if I've got it wrong.

I read BSal's post (#3) as saying that aussie sellers list on the .com site so they can use the reserve feature.

This is so, and it's allowed. It's in no way unethical.  But it's not hidden, it's marked as a reserve met or reserve not met, as it is with motors listings on the .au site.

Oh, I see, Angel. Just wondered why Bsal is saying that it's unethical then. If it's not hidden and I can see that feature on the listing, fair enough but to be honest if this "reserve" bit became common on auctions here I probably would not bid at all.

It's only bsal's opinion that it's unethical, and most will ignore that.  Nothing unethical at all about it. Buyers can choose whether to bid or not, just as they do with private listings and other variances. Reserve auctions here were very unpopular as i said before, which is why eBay discontinued them. People didnt want to place bids and wait a week or 10 days to find out that the reserve was not met and in the meantime they had missed out on other similar items.

Thanks Angel. Yes, what a pain that would be. Wait all that time for auction to finish only to find reserve not met.  Not for me, that format.
