Seller Cancels Auction Sale For No Good Reason or Notification

I just had a seller randomly cancel a purchase I had won through an auction, an antique vase, likely at the realisation that the sale price was quite undervalued, but I was just amazed that ebay allows this without any notification or acceptance on my behalf.

Of course I still want the item, over 10 years of buying through auctions on ebay and this is a first, feel quite cheated, but it seems I have no recourse whatsoever. Whatever happened to the binding contract of ebay auctions and sellers having to complete their sale based on the guidelines they themselves put in place?

Re: Seller Cancels Auction Sale For No Good Reason or Notification

A seller did the same to me a couple of weeks back ,  I was the highest bidder on a Samsung S6 phone,   after about 40min after the end of the auction the order was cancelled by the seller,  no message or reason from the seller,  they had 0 feeback ,  but I didnt pay for the item ( was an Australian seller) so no money lost.  Still had the chance to leave feedback so had no hesitation in leaving negative feeback ,  think its the first time I've left neg feedback too.   Have left neutral feedback before on other sellers but only for a good reason.

Check in hidden or cancelled orders if you have trouble finding the item that was cancelled by the seller.

The phone app is pretty basic ,  try using a computer if you cant find something on your Ebay phone app.

I would say she didn't get what she wanted for it. I think they're nearly double that to buy new aren't they? I recently bought a new S5 and it cost around that and I'm pretty sure when I was looking that the S6 was nearly double. I couldn't justify the extra. Unfortunately there's not a lot you can do about it short of what you've already done.

Mr Tippy won an item at auction the other day that I said don't be surprised if the seller doesn't send it, or he cancels the sale. I worked it out and he would have made about 50c on the sale after eBay and PayPal took their cut. Much to my surprise, he honoured the sale. If he'd contacted us and said that it sold for way less than he wanted then I probably would have bartered with him and offered him what Mr Tippy's maximum bid was. He was a newish seller, but had sold a number of things already.
