Tell the seller to try again but this time in the invoice DO NOT click recalculate as that reverts it back to the way it was.
Just make the correction and send.

Someone with more experience will come along and answer you I'm sure
In the meantime, as long as you don't use complete checkout and don't pay, I know the buyer can still send another invoice.

The seller can definitely send a new invoice - 'Send Invoice' is the option displayed next to an item in the sold list, and once one has been sent, it becomes 'Mark as payment received', but Send Invoice is still an option in the dropdown menu, they only have to click More actions.
If you purchased more than one item, the send invoice option will be at the top, not in the dropdown menu next to the items (which the first displayed option will be Leave feedback).
Here's a screenshot if it helps them locate it, either by sending a link to the thread or explaining how to send a new invioce. ๐
If you make a direct payment, as long as the payment is made for eligible goods that are being posted (eligible goods being the same as what qualifies for Buyer Protection via eBay), then your protection is the same as if you used eBay checkout, however going through checkout will make things easier and there's no reason they can't send a new invoice (other than they might not know how...yet).

Another way to send the invoice is to click on the Send Invoice link which comes in the sale notification email from eBay when your item sells. Under the buyers details it has a Send invoice to buyer which takes you to back to eBay. See below
