Hello, I have purchased last week a tablet from apparently a Chinese brand but the seller appears to be their only Australian eBay store.
Yesterday, seller said this item will take another week to get here, and she would upload a fake tracking number for the time being. I understand this is what usually happens when the actual stock is located in China and told her it's fine I can wait. I thought the tracking number would be one of those "holding" tracking numbers which will remain idle for a few weeks until it reaches here then they send it to the post office / courier.
Today I found the tracking number shows movement in the postal system. Obviously that's not my item.
Their feedback are all positive for this year, although often complained about slow postage.
I don't usually purchase items located overseas, this one is an exception. Is it their standard practice to upload fake tracking numbers or should I be concerned?
Thank you.

That is scary. It's one thing for a genuine collector to be after parts, another thing entirely if someone uses them to scam others.

Huatao.
Okay, so you have a new tracking number.
Doesn't matter. EDD has passed. Open an ebay claim now.
I asked you before-what is the worst that could happen?
So what if you go through with a claim, get a refund then the tablet arrives after that?
You've been told there is a warranty. Let me tell you, I know of someone who bought a new camera from an Australian based seller, only to find it faulty when it arrived.
The seller's response? It had to be posted back to an overseas address, at considerable expense. This was years ago. These days I would know better and tell her to just open an ebay claim.
At least she got her camera back eventually. Usually people here find there is no warranty. None at all.
Look, just open a claim while you can.
I know you are scared of upsetting the seller. If she asks in a message why, oh, why are you doing this? Just reply-nothing personal at all, please understand, just a business decision as the due delivery date is well past and I have to protect my iterests.

Of course she is going to say yes
I'm sure she is'nt the big boss, go over her head and ask someone who has'nt already proven themselves to be a liar

Cameras all all grey imports. Even Teds, and Dicksmiths (which is Kogan) etc. There is no such thing as warranty, unless you go direct to say Cannon's website and follow the "where to buy" links (even at these stores I heard plenty of stories where they find excuses and do not honor the warranty). Not to mention rare ones such as my BlackMagic 4K pocket cinema, I had to send a ton of emails back and forth confirming if a seller is legit, then I eventually got it from videopro, after 3 months of wait post payment (paid in Jan got it at around Easter missing Moomba). I felt like they had to make one just for me. Which was quite ironic since BlackMagic Design is, guess what, an Australian company based in Port Melbourne.
My Ultra Sonic Vinyl Record cleaner, was also after a very long wait (more than a month post payment).
For products with a very small customer base, you'll just have to wait. It's just the way it works, often their stock is empty and they have to get one just for you (somehow, from somewhere).
Other common house hold products, with warranty I think it really depend on the manufacturer. I bought a Dennon soundbar from eBay, then a few days later I got an email from Dennon Australia asking me to register it for warranty, and I filled up their online form, uploading purchase receipt and a photo showing the part where serial number was and everything was fine.
Back to the topic. This XP Pen, like it or not, is the 2nd best selling drawing tablet in Japan 2022, after Wacom. Reason is maybe they actually started in Japan and moved to China later. But even so, I doubt there are many people like me who decided to pick up cartooning as a hobby at this time of the year. So I was prepared for a few weeks wait, as long as it's within my 6 months PayPal dispute window.
Tracking updated again, my tablet is now at the nearest AP facility. Yay~~ Should have it either today or Monday. For it to turn up within 2 weeks at the end of the year is quite excellent in my standard.

Postman knocked on the door and my tablet is finally here. Right model, not used. All good so far. I'll spend some time and give it a spin during the weekend. Thanks everyone.

I am genuinely surprised, and glad for you, OP.
The whole fake tracking number still takes me aback…

As it does most of us, countess.
The buyer is happy with their cheap Chinese knockoff. Their house hasn't burnt down, yet.

I am glad your item arrived.
I was worried the seller might string you along for over 30 days so you couldn't open an ebay claim as not everyone buys by paypal. I always do as it gives you that longer window and I do a lot of buying off ebay.
I do hate to see any buyer losing money on ebay because they waited too long to open a claim.
I don't know that I am shocked it arrived, I thought it could possibly go either way but my philosophy these days is when in doubt and EDD has passed, don't mess around, just open a claim. I particularly dislike the use of a fake tracking number and if I were you, I'd be inclined to ask the seller why they did that.
I know nothing about XP pens. I just hope that yours is the genuine item and that it is covered by a genuine warranty. Those are aspects that would worry me. I just prefer to buy things like computers, tablets, cameras etc from real stores.
But good luck with your hobby and happy new year!

Shocked.
But you still need to report them to Ebay and leave them bad feedback.
This is unacceptable behaviour and gives us good sellers a bad name, dont let them game the system.

The seller looked legit and as you say everything leads back to a warehouse in Sydney. The fake tracking number must be to do with delays in getting stock to the warehouse at this time of year as it would be normal practice to extend handling time to allow for delays in shipping that occur regularly. Normally one or two late deliveries are fine but they may have had more than that which would lead to going over the allowed percentage.
I do have to say I am glad you showed patience and where confident everything except for the original tracking number looked legit. I am unsure why so many get carried away with their posts as things do go wrong time to time but not always.
