Okay, I didn't check my messages or emails - my bad. 5 days ago I won an auction I had forgotten I was bidding on. I realised this morning, and paid, then called the seller to make sure they knew immediately I had paid. They told me that yesterday, they'd offered second chance to the next bidder down, and resold the item.
Again, ok, my bad for not checking my messages. But the only one they sent me anyway was 3 days ago, asking when I would pay. I paid this morning, 5 days after. There was nothing in the auction about how long for contact or how long for payment. What do sellers normally do? Is this regular practice? I've had some bad luck lately with sellers doing stuff like this (the last one took a higher offer he'd received via inbox after auction close, relisted the item and had the other person buy it for more, THEN left me a negative comment because I left him one!). Is 5 days an unacceptable amount of time these days??? When I rang, the lady was quite rude, and also told me it was okay to leave a negative comment in feedback (which this one has ALSO done) and i'm lucky they left it to me in a positive comment! What the hell??? It's been ages since I bought lots from ebay, but i'm getting turned off by the whole experience at the moment! Is this normal of Ebay these days?

The proper process for a seller is to open an Unpaid Item case and close it before offering a second chance or relisting the item, which takes a minimum of 8 days, (or they can get the buyer to agree to a mutual cancellation at any time), as that is the only way to officially finalise the transaction - without doing that, as you know, it leaves the seller open to selling one item twice.
Despite that, there is very little you can do to actually get the seller to honour the sale. As you have paid, they should not be able to open an unpaid item case, but I would hope they have refunded already if they have no intention of sending the item?
Leaving a negative comment with a positive rating for a buyer is a policy breach, and if reported will be removed.

Just to address this, for some people, yes. Particularly when a message goes unanswered, as then the seller can only base their decisions on the facts that they know - i.e. no payment and no response to messages. I'm not trying to excuse the seller, just saying that I know how frustrating it can be to not know what's going on.
While the time frame here is Oz is still 4 days before a dispute can be filed, eBay recently shortened it to 2 days in the US. I would not be surprised if it eventually became 2 days here, as well.

Thanks....I thought I was going mad! The woman on the phone was quite rude, spouting ebay rules and told me she was quite within her rights (or actually, her 13 year old son was quite within HIS rights, which i've since discovered is also a breach of policy) to do what they've done. As far as I can see, the only thing I did wrong was not contacting, and I did make a superhuman effort to contact at the 5 day mark, by even getting the number and calling! My money has been refunded, but it's still a pain as I won't have access to it now for a couple of days.

ok firstly, ring ebay and have the negative comment with the green dot removed from your feedback. They will remove it because it is against ebay policy for sellers to do this.
Secondly, leave a neg feedback for the sale this topic is about. Life hapens, and when there is a public holiday within the time frame of 4 days to pay, then sellers should be a tad more understanding.
The seller has NOT followed ebay selling policy for this sale. So, when you ring ebay to have the green neg feedback removed, mention this sale too, and the fact that seller is only 13yrs old.
Make sure you have both transaction number id's and the seller id's when you ring ebay.
Good luck. 🙂

Even though this seller has not done the right thing, my advice is to give leaving any feedback very careful consideration.
Personally I would not leave feedback, as I have no goods to assess and rate the transaction against - in your case you have your money back, and some experience under your belt.
Keep in mind that the feedback you leave other sellers is also visible to all to see - whilst it reflects on the sellers reputation, it also reflects on your own, as a buyer.

Negative has already been left & unfortunately makes the OP look a little strange IMO
Seller did second chance without unpaid dispute at only 4 days. Did refund

yeah i saw that after i wrote the comment.
*waves to foxy* :-x
@thecatspjs ~ even though the buyer was refunded, the purchase was still a transaction. This OP is well within her rights to leave a neg, and the fact that seller second chanced it on day 5, and then buyer got a rude mouthfull from seller at time of phonecall, deserves a neg in my books!

Five days to pay is not a long time especially with ANZAC day in the middle of it all.
FYI I have not had many bad experience's buying through eBay so don't let this put you off.

Yes, but the buyer has not made many recent transactions and recently left a negative for another seller for a similar situation, so it may put sellers off and get them added to BBLs. Remember we are only getting one side of the story here.
