Sellers, second chance offers, and how long to pay?

Okay, I didn't check my messages or emails - my bad.  5 days ago I won an auction I had forgotten I was bidding on.  I realised this morning, and paid, then called the seller to make sure they knew immediately I had paid.  They told me that yesterday, they'd offered second chance to the next bidder down, and resold the item.

Again, ok, my bad for not checking my messages.  But the only one they sent me anyway was 3 days ago, asking when I would pay.  I paid this morning, 5 days after.  There was nothing in the auction about how long for contact or how long for payment.  What do sellers normally do?  Is this regular practice?  I've had some bad luck lately with sellers doing stuff like this (the last one took a higher offer he'd received via inbox after auction close, relisted the item and had the other person buy it for more, THEN left me a negative comment because I left him one!).  Is 5 days an unacceptable amount of time these days???  When I rang, the lady was quite rude, and also told me it was okay to leave a negative comment in feedback (which this one has ALSO done) and i'm lucky they left it to me in a positive comment!  What the hell???  It's been ages since I bought lots from ebay, but i'm getting turned off by the whole experience at the moment!  Is this normal of Ebay these days?

eBay send a reminder at Day 2

eBay suggest seller opens a dispute at Day 4

eBay suggest seller waits at least a further 4 days as dispute can only be closed on Day 8

Seller can resell on day 9

and with regards to second-chance offers, the seller is allowed to start communications with underbidders before day 9 to let them know that a second-chance situation may arise and to see if the underbidders would still be interested in buying.

If eBay lowers the time to pay to 2 days that will mean end of DD, as 2 days is minimum for DD to come through.  By the way, do people still use DD?

I still use DD for 2 sellers that I have been using for many years...never a problem even when expensive items have gone astray.

If I make the payment before 5.30pm it is always in the sellers account the next morning.
