i think the question any seller would ask is if they arrived in faulty condition, why did you continue wearing them if you were going to return them? no one wants an item returned that has been worn "a few times" by someone else.
also, if you're able to post on the message board - im sure you're able to send / upload the necessary photos of the item.

If it's just the inside, can you glue it? Surely they'd have glue in South America. Even if you are able to return them in 2 months, it's going to be obvious they have been worn. Therefore they wouldn't be returned in the condition they were received, so the seller is not obliged to refund.

You are really stretching your credibility now.....you cannot open a dispute and keep on wearing the shoes. They have to be returned in the condition in which they were received, not in the condition they are in after you have worn them for weeks.
And no, you cannot open a dispute now as you have a very limited time in which to return the shoes....I think paypal gives you a week or 10 days in which to post them.

wherever you are, can you source some footwear worn by the locals? The benefit of this would be that the footwear would be suitable for the locality you find yourself in.

Really? You were going to an out of the way spot and only packed one pair of shoes for the whole holiday?
You're kidding me. I find it hard to believe to tell the truth. I suspect you mean you have other shoes but nothing that 'goes with' some of your outfits as well, so you wear these then.
I believe you about the shoes having a fault but if you are going to travel light, you need to check out each item before you leave. Or at least know you can buy a replacement at the destination if disaster strikes.
They have wifi where you are but don't sell shoes in Sth America?
You can hardly expect to wear the shoes for a few months and then get a refund.
And it won't be just a few times you wear them, as you'll be wearing them every day if you really have nothing else with you. And if you do have other shoes/boots with you, then you should be wearing them, not the shoes you want to return.
Not trying to be mean, just trying to see it from the seller's point of view. You have the shoes, you expect to wear them for months while on holiday (even if faulty they are obviously wearable), then you want a refund?

springy, if the sandals were in packed luggage and not inspected by the OP before going overseas, I would like to know what they wore on their feet on the plane??????

If they arrived in a bad condition why did you take them with you? If they looked like they'd fall apart then surely you would have taken something else that was less risky.
@ springyzone... I once took only one pair of shoes to England for a month's long holiday but I made sure before I left home that they were comfortable enough to wear all day every day and were in perfect condition. The next time I went I got really extravagant and took one pair in my luggage as well as the ones on my feet. I also took three spare sets of clothing instead of the usual two.

But they said they could see they were faulty when they received them, so they knew when they put them in their luggage that they had a problem.

It's 18 months to open a dispute with Paypal isn't it?
