Shame on you Australia Post - 30% Increase is completely unjustified!

Hi everyone

Not sure if you are aware or not, but Australia Post has just increased their postage charges by 30% and this will flow on to buyers & sellers alike. Whether you buy with ‘free postage’ or buy with postage as an additional expense, we can all expect to pay more.

What has really got up my nose is how Aust Post can justify the previous charge of $1 for ‘signature on delivery’ with an increase today of $2.95 for the same service! This charge is now being applied to the ClickandSend ebay/austpost satchels that many ebay sellers in Australia use.

We are already fighting a losing battle to remain competitive in the global market because of our extortionate postage costs within Australia and to post internationally.

Sadly to say, I feel we are going to see ‘free postage’ go by the wayside now. Because 90% of buyers are using Paypal, sellers need to show ‘proof of delivery’ in the event of a buyer opening a dispute in Paypal, claiming an item has not been received. So many parcels go missing, whether through theft, damage, fraud or abandonment and if the extra $2.95 for a signature on delivery is not taken up, then the seller will automatically have the case closed in the buyer’s favour. It is that simple. Registered Post is no longer. If you want Registered Post, it will cost $2.95 for the signature on Delivery plus $1.50 to cover than article up to the value of $100!

This petition now has media interest with a phone interview from Karen with ABC Radio the Sydney Morning Herald’s article and callers ringing into 2GB Radio in Sydney.

In closing, if I can say one thing… there is nothing that riles an aussie more than seeing fellow aussies kicked when they are already down 😞

Ellen, these latest price rises by Aus Post are totally unacceptable.

I would understand a reasonable rise but these are ludicrous.

What cost me $7.20 last Friday will cost me over $10 next Monday and even more if I want insurance. The postage alone is now double the price of some things I sell.

I always thought the prices were too high before. Now they are a joke.

I hope they reconsider these rise for the sake of many small Aussie businesses.

Totally and agree with you Dicko! It's absolutely crazy. Are we supposed to see our overseas counterparts get richer and fatter while being raked over the coals by Aust Post for our crime of being Australian? Buddha give me strength... I understand annual price increases, but this latest stunt, this gouging just takes the cake.

As those satchels are in partnership with ebay, surely there is something ebay can and should be doing on our behalf... or am I losing the plot even going there?

I think you hit the hammer on the nail there! And found a Big Fat Ebay Fingure there.

They hit you for listing fees, than final sales fee, then paypal (They affiliate) hit you with a fee for receiving funds  and one for taking them out of paypal, now they got their big fat greedy hand in for some postage! It's just another scam like the US! The Couriers are starting to look good to me! Like Pack and Send, Atlest you know you have security with them!

Just so you know, there are NO fees for transferring Paypal balances to bank accounts, and haven't been for a couple of years now.

been reading through all the negative posts on Australia post website, interesting one from a family insider that A.P. are looking for record profits this year so that it can be sold off next year thus showing how profitable it is. should have written it down but sure it was click and send that is to be fazed out. A.P. seems to be deleting lots of posts [don't you just love freedom of speech].

This is a general comment on some of the new modern day CEO's and is not directed at any particular company .

I have noticed that a lot of the CEO'S today get control of a company and  often they have never been self employed themselves in their life and the way they increase the bottom line of their companies profits quickly , so as to justify the huge salaries and bonus they receive is to increase their prices hugely and in the process they achieve very high profits in the short term but in the long term they could lose a lot of business .

The success of most businesses is getting return customers and if small business fail because the cost rise too steeply , the strategies of increases may not work in the long term

Good take on the situation Apple! I hadn't thought of it that way as I've been so ticked about what is happening that I didn't stop to smell the roses! lol  But you are right... and I think there is also substance to fattening up the cow shortly before selling..... or slaughtering..... Crikey!!
