Someone bought an item but used mums paypal!

Hi ebayers,

My mum had an unauthorised transaction in her paypal account tonight,

She has contacted paypal to try to stop the transaction, we have checked the ebay item number & it is a legitimate item with a purchase made at the time mums account was used to pay.

the buyer is newish  (13 feedback)

is there anyway we can alert ebay to this scammer?

or any other advise?

Sounds like her account has been hacked or hijacked.

Contact Paypal and probably eBay.

Run virus checks and especially malware checks. Change all passwords. Where has your mother been on the net? Has she clicked on links in emails?

Passwords are changed, paypal has been contacted 🙂

What we really need to figure out is how to report the buyer to ebay as it wasnt bought through mums ebay account but was a legit ebay item paid with her paypal, we can see the purchase but of course cant click on the buyers name because its secret now 😞

Are you responding to emails you have received, if so the transactions may not have taken place if they are scam emails.

Check directly in each account.

Log into PayPal directly to see if any trans have occured.

not clicking any links, logged into paypal directly & transaction was there.

Dispute has been started, buyers address is russia.

Go to the trnasaction in your Mother's paypal account and click on Details.   On the details of the transaction you will find the Shipping address.  That should be enough for ebay to track down the buyer.

That might be a good idea.....just warn him that the real owner of the paypal account is starting an unauthorised use dispute so he should not post the item.

He may be willing to give you the ID of the buyer to report them to ebay.

Wouldn't the item be posted to your default PayPal registered address? Or did they hack it and change that? If so it should be visible in the transaction and local authorities in that country should be able to act.

Transaction should also display user name and email address of the buyer too.
