Hi.. I just won a guitar for $700 . Very cheap for this guitar The seller did not post a pic but described the guitar ok so I bid. He had nominated $157 postage but as he is in Melbourne and so am I, I sent him a msg before the end to point out that postage should only be around $20..or else I could pick it up...
Now after winning, he then sent me a total of $1714.....which means that the postage would now be $1014...
I pointed out his error and he replied reducing it back to $157.....and when I replied that I could pick it up he confirmed $700.... My problem is that his communications have grammatical errors and do not read well so I obtained his ph no & suburb from eBay which confirmed that he was indeed in the adjacent suburb...but his ph no just drops out when dialed. I have tried to text him with no response
I am now concerned that the seller may be from overseas and has highjacked a local account. I have offered to pick up the guitar and pay cash but he wants payment first..then I can pick up but he wont give me his address until he has payment... I know that if I pay Paypal it should be covered but it is a real pain having to wait for refunds.
Hey I just looked up his 'other items' and found that he has another guitar IDENTICAL under "Fender Telecaster Electric Guitar" still with no photos.... 2 day sale...
Should I pay or report to eBay???.... gee the guy could be legit and inexperienced and I may be doing him a disservice but I smell somthing..... what do you guys think?

Dear fdifino,
Really appreciate the **bleep** around really counted on sale now because you getting high and mighty I have been evicted. Thanks mate all I originally wanted was to finalize through secured payment option.

Dear
bigbadfuzzie,
Greg I have always been ready to pay you for this and you could have had the
cash the same day. I also tried to pay into your account but you gave me the
incorrect account number but then I found out that I am not covered by Paypal /
eBay if I pay direct.... and even if I pay by Paypal I am not covered if I pick
up or you deliver. I even offered you another $100... If I was as desperate for
money as you say you are I would have jumped at the chance
I would thus have paid through Paypal except for your unbelievably high cost of
postage... $1000 to deliver to the next suburb... should only be a few dollars
I have been in eBay for 10 years and have never paid that from the other side
of the world, let alone within walking distance
I just cannot understand why you didn't want to meet to swap guitar for cash...
would have been so easy
Now I have discussed this with many people on and off eBay and they all think
that this is all suss which is why I need to see the guitar or at least a decent
picture of the guitar before paying. You had no photo on eBay and even the
small fuzzy photo you sent was no help at all. Decent pictures and serial
numbers etc would have helped
The people I have discussed this with have suggested
You may be a scammer
The guitar may be a fake or a knockoff from China
The guitar may be damaged
The guitar may be stolen
The guitar may not exist
Now I have sent a copy of this letter to eBay however I am still willing to go
through with the deal and will pay you through Paypal as long as you provide a
decent picture and a realistic postage cost
thankyou

I think he's just living up to his id lol
Can somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but in the unpaid item/strike situation
wouldn't OP be able to argue that he tried to pay but struck problems along the way.
On paper he did try to pay (even tho everyone told him not to unless it was paypal) and he made every effort to pay?

dont do anything, dont pay for it , dont pick it up. complain to ebay and cancel the sale.

Thanks to all you out there that took the time to respond and give me advice on this problem.. I notified eBay of the problem and they took immediate steps to cancel the transaction. It appears that there is definitely a scam of some sort and the account may have also been hijacked.
So thanks again and another victory to the eBay discussion boards

YAY!!!!!
(did they also remove your non paying strike? - If not ring them back - they can read your messages or show them this thread!)
I'm just really sorry that you missed out on a guitar that you obviously wanted really badly.

and as harsh as this seems. look on the bright side, he still has his guitar and maybe even a gitar case, so he can set up on a street corner somewhere, open up his guitar case and do some busking to earn some money to pay the rent on his next place of residence.
so really, it's a win/win situation, eh?
