The seller advertised an item as the last one. I bought it and paid for it. Then the seller messaged me and said there was a stock discrepancy and cancelled my order. I then received a cancelled order message for a refund off eBay with the reason given as "Buyer cancelled order". When I questioned the seller about this I didn't get a reply. The original order then disappeared, so any feedback about this transaction could not be sent.
Since then I purchased the same item from someone else also listing it as the last one. I was told the item wouldn't arrive till about the middle of April. Turns out there a none in Australia and the distributor (VPW) of that brand has these items on back order.
What can be done about eBay sellers listing items for sale, when there aren't any available due to back ordering, and then blaming customer for cancelled sale?

Some sellers indicate that the buyer cancelled so that they don't get a defect on their account. It is annoying, I agree, but it does not affect your own account in any way.
Cancelled orders are at the bottom of the purchase history, and you can still leave feedback. You should also still be able to leave fb if you click on "awaiting feedback" on the summary page (the link is on the left).

Most of those type listings state
Freight - Check the item description or contact the seller for details for details
as it indeed does for the listing you left feedback on
Did you contact that seller for an estimate before committing to buy as it asks buyers to do?

It is nothing to do with eBay, eBay doesn't list or sell anything.
It is people like you and I whom list and sell on the eBay advertising site.
Like buying from any site online there will always be some that don't have stock even if the listing shows as in stock.
Part of life.
BTW, I have found Rolan to be professional.

....it also could be this known glitch that plagues us all from time to time:

Thank you for explaining that. I thought it was making me look bad as a buyer, because recently I have had to cancel a different order due to excessive freight charges that were not made available until I confirmed the purchase. This is another unfair issue that some sellers persist on doing. Thanks again for your help. Cheers.
