UNPROTECTED

Hi to all

Has any member felt unprotected, i do now, i purchased an item from an overseas seller when it arrived the item was not as described, i contacted the seller and eBay i went through what i was told by the seller and eBay they told me to return the item to them and that i would be refunded in full for the item and for all the returned postage which in the eBay rules has to be to registered so it could be traced.

I did all i was told to do, i have proof that the seller has picked up the items in question at the Malaysian post office, but they will not refund my money i have emailed them around ten times and now i do not even get a reply, eBay knows of what has happened and that the seller has not refunded what they said they would, but eBay still lets them trade eBays exact words to me was that we are behind you on this one but the seller is still trading the seller is still receiving numerous negative feedback every week and i still have not received my refund from them after doing what i was told to do.

All eBay tell me to do now is take it up with your bank that is the thanks i get for being a 100% member since 2002 never a negative feedback and the seller who owes me money gets neg feedback every week but he is still trading owing money to me and eBay have the proof of that I CANNOT AFFORD TO LOSE THIS MONEY AS I AM A DISABILITY PENSIONER AND FEEL JUST AS LET DOWN BY EBAY AS I HAVE BEEN BY THIS SELLER.

So that is why the heading to this message is UNPROTECTED. This is the second time i have put this on for discussion the first one was taken off for some reason!!

did you pay with PayPal and open a PayPal dispute to get your $$back immediately once you gave PayPal the Registered post details???

To have any buyer protection you need to pay by Paypal and follow all of paypals disputes policy

Had you paid by paypal and opened a dispute within 45 days and returned the item as per paypals instructions you would have your money back

Of course you are unprotected if you have paid into a bank account. Sorry but for buyer protection you need to always use Paypal.

Op must have paid by PP - how else can you pay someone in Malaysia?

But why would Ebay tell him to contact his bank?

It is possible to do an International Transfer to a bank in Malaysia, but not very likely....and it is expensive.

If the OP did use paypal, why are they contacting ebay and not opening a paypal dispute?

It is a standard response from both ebay and paypal to contact your bank when there is a dispute about money which may or may not be covered by paypal...just as they tell you to contact the police if you have been ripped off.

Hi all

Yes paid by PayPal, when i received the item it was not as described and i was going to dispute it but was told before i dispute it to try and work it out with the seller first, so i communicated with the seller and they were ok but now looking back at it they strung things out a bit any way days are going by they then told me to return the item and they would refund all my expenses including return postage costs etc, i did all this and then by the time all this was done and i was asking them had they received it yet and they came back with a negative, i contacted the Malaysian post office they told me that it had been picked up by this time the 45 days have passed by, but i was advised to do it this way remember. I again contacted them and they said that they had not picked it up so i gave them the reg post number and the day it was picked up and the person to contact in the Malaysian post office and i have not heard back from them since, they now are getting neg feedback every week they owe me money which they said they would give me. All this correspondence is in writing through the eBay channels and yet they are still allowed to trade, eBays exact words to me were we have your back on this one we are behind you yet they have done nothing for me only to advise me to contact my bank and do a charge-back through my visa, what really upset me was when i first contacted eBay about the seller not returning my emails with regard to payment eBay never got back to me it took a second email for them to email me and since then all i have got is that they are doing things to the sellers account of which they cannot divulge but the seller is still selling his products i suppose i thought that i would have got a little bit more help than i did, and that a seller with that reputation would have been disciplined a bit more.

The bottom line is i did what i was advised to do and lost out so the system is in need of tweaking its just that i feel that i am not being heard or taken care of being that i am the innocent one in this.

Thanks for all you interest

Only Paypal can arrange a refund not ebay so please remember that in future. You need to open a dispute and follow Paypal's instructions - don't trust a seller. As ebay have said contact your bank to arrange a chargeback if the payment was funded by a credit card.
