What's up ebay???
Bought a couple of flash units the other day and arranged to pay for and collect them on Sunday. All went well and even provided feedback for the seller.
Two days later, I get two "unpaid item cases" sent to me from ebay... claiming that the seller had opened these cases. Considering I had already paid for and collected the flash units, I thought this was very odd.
Contacted the seller, who indicated that he did NOT open the cases and was equally shocked when he himself had been notified of the claims.
Seems that ebay is getting very aggressive in trying to get buyers to pay up quickly (and preferably use PayPal), even to the extent of commencing unpaid item claims, without the knowledge of the seller.
Poor form, ebay... very poor form!!!

Sellers can set Unpaid Item cases to be automatically started if payment hasn't been received within a certain period. To stop cases automatically being lodged, the seller needs to mark items as "paid".
If the seller hasn't gone in and marked the items as paid, eBay's not to know that they've been paid - has the seller done so?

Before I say anything else, I just wanted to ask two questions....
Has the seller closed the cases and marked the items as payment received? And, were there any payment options available in the listing other than PayPal (eg cash on pick-up)?

The seller didn't indicate that he set this up.
I suppose it depends on whether it is something you have to specifically opt-in for (and tick a box) or it is something that is automatically set up and you have to specifically opt-out of (and tick a box), which most people would not think to do. I would hope that it is the former.
I have sold some items recently and can not remember seeing this option, so I hope it is not the latter situation, as I wouldn't want the same thing happening to me.

the seller should close the cases/s imediately. a very simple thing to do.
unless hes being a shonky dealer.
who started the cases doesnt matter, buyer paid, took the items, seller got paid.

Once I contacted the seller, he quickly closed the cases and marked the items as paid and delivered. As I indicated, he was both surprised and appologetic that the cases had commenced at all, so it wasn't something he specifically opted into when he set up the auctions.
Yes, other payment options were available, as I paid cash when I picked them up.
However, as usual, ebay was pushing the PayPal option for paying the claim... which is to be expected considering the ownership arrangements.

the seller has done the right thing, good.
if he doesnt want unpaid item cases opened automatically he should check his settings, make sure the auto case opening box is not ticked.
if its not and this happened again he should ring ebay and get it looked into.

Paypal is no longer owned by ebay....no since last year at least.
