Two weeks ago I ordered something from Melbourne (I'm in Perth). I was beginning to wonder why I hadn't receive the item (it was suppose to arrive three days ago at the latest) so I contacted the seller, who told me "Sorry, Ebay didn't notify me of the payment." I thought this was all automatically done by computer. I'm now wonderig if the seller had to order the item and wait for it to arrive before sending it to me. The birthday that I bought this for is this weekend, so I'm a bit rattled. Does Ebay forget to notify sellers? And what kind of feedback should I leave?

"Sorry, Ebay didn't notify me of the payment."
I don't believe that for one minute. The seller would have cancelled due to non payment by now.
"I'm now wonderig if the seller had to order the item and wait for it to arrive before sending it to me."
Or dropshipping ?
Either that, or is it a new seller , maybe not signed up for managed payments or doesn't realise that the payment may be on hold for 30 days?
Anyway, not your problem. I'd be furious.
Open an item not received claim immediately. You can ask eBay to step in after 3 days

Personal experience. Item bought last Saturday, posted Monday Canberra to Perth, received by buyer today. Untracked letter.

There have been numerous occasions where eBay never sent us an email advising of a sale. I only find out when I check the eBay sellers hub

And even if that was true, obviously the OP's seller didn't check anything....for two entire weeks...and even then , only checked when the OP contacted the seller
But as already mentioned, I don't believe the seller was telling the truth at all.

It sounds fishy to me. Extremely.
If a seller notices that an item has sold (and any seller should be checking at least every other day), it is their job to look for payment details, they shouldn't sit back to wait for ebay to advise.
Two weeks is ridiculous, they are making excuses up. I'd be opening a claim too, as casey advised.
After it is all settled, I would decide on feedback. Probably negative unless they did something special to make up for the delay-maybe said sorry & sent the item express at their own expense or whatever.
