Isn't it typical for electonics sellers to advertise up big warranties of their sale goods (like 5 years on good-quality memory cards) just to suck you in for a purchase and then when the item fails (of course outside the 45 days PayPal limit) they refuse to answer all emails for help and assistance.

this is just basic consumer rights
Oh - THERE it is! Thank you kindly!
Part of the ruling was that MSY couldn't sell a monitor and you bring it back the next day, just for them to say "oh you need to contact ASUS/BENQ/SAMSUNG etc and they will take care of it" - that THEY are responsible for warranty as much as the manufacturer.
Walk into any MSY store and you will see the signs they were required to put up telling you just that.
That being said - agreed sometimes it's better to call the manufacturer/distributor - especially when the come and fix it onsite :^O

Consumer Choice magazine also regularly do writeups on this as well - the move by retailers to distance themselves from any warranty responsibility, and the Dept of Fair Trading take a dim view on it as well.

I totally agree that as a consumer I should be able to contact the retailer and they sort it out...as in I shouldn't have to go further.

And I totally agree that calling the manufacturer/distributor can be a very satisfying experience in terms of the service received.
But primarily with TVs and computer monitors? Would you tend to agree with that?

It depends on the company. The OP purchased the item on ebay did they not? surely they (ebay) are some how liable for the inadequacies of the products the endorse.
