The message 'This item has been marked as posted" is meaningless even if coming from a seller. It does not mean the item is posted or that it has even moved one inch closer to me from its location. If this message originates from eBay itself (and I believe it does), where is the information that an item has been "marked" coming from? If it is in fact the seller, maybe I should be getting this communication directly from the seller. I get this message but nothing else (from sellers) and I have to believe it is sent by eBay to promote better feedback ratings for seller communication where in fact in many cases, there is none at all.
A reply from eBay personnel would be very enlightening.

what a load of twaddle,philbo.
if item is 'free' postage you dont GIVE any starts for postage time, as ebay automatically gives a 5
you obviously have no idea whatsoever how DSR's work and how they impact on the trading ability of a seller, lets hope you learn something soon, before you ruin any more ebay sellers livelihood.

I don't think berating an OP over DSRs is helpful. Reminds me of a saying that involves vinegar and honey.
Think the OPs post just demonstrates that the current wording of DSRs leaves a lot to be desired.

That is incredibly unfair of you Phil, a seller has no influence over the time it takes for AP to deliver a parcel. The delivery rating is actually for the time it takes for the seller to post the item from the time of the sale. I know the wording from Ebay is not clear on that point but it should be obvious.
It can often take 2 weeks for a parcel to arrive from somewhere in another state even if the seller posted it the same day of the sale. It usually takes 3-4 weeks from overseas. Please be a bit more understanding.

So this thread probably warrants another questiopn. What should be considered an ACCEPTABLE handling time. I would suggest maximum of 4 days, just like a buyer has to pay. That is how I rate a sellers DSR.

I have 2 business days handling. Mainly because if somebody buys something at 11pm there is no chance of next day postage. I usually post next day, and sometimes the same day, but I'm not prepared to hang my DSRs on that.
We do, however, seem to have a consensus as to philbo's rating system.

Maybe ebay needs to stipulate a maximum acceptable handling time. In this day and age 4- 5 working days should be ample time for ANY seller. So tstore, you mean i can bid on an item then message the seller that my paying time is 4 days, or a week or a month? Obviously there needs to APPROPRIATE timeframes to both sides of the transaction not what ever one side or the other wants.

The handling time for every listing is found in the postage section. If you don't like a sellers handling time you don't have to buy from them.

Assuming the seller resides in a reasonably major population centre. Are you aware that there are parts of this country that don't have mains electricity, sewerage systems, town water, landline telephone access, any 21st Century amenities? You seem to be saying that they shouldn't be selling online. Comments?
The sellers' appropriate timeframe is stipulated in their postage and handling section. Presumably you read that? If not, why not?

All I am saying is that EBAY needs to stipulate the parameters for ALL transactions, on both the buying and selling side.
If EITHER side can not operate within these parameters then maybe they need to look for other options to buy or sell.
And no I dont read the sellers handling time. If an item i bought has been posted from within Australia i give it a max of 21 days to arrive before i open a dispute. Fingers crossed, never had to yet.
