I don't believe there is an actual percentage that would be considered as recommended. unless you know how to read other people's minds it is just hit and miss. I find that if you wouldn't want to sell the item yourself for what you intend to offer then don't

Put an offer that you would like to pay and see what happens. 50 / 50 chance. If the buyer has set an offer not less than, you will soon find out. Make it reasonable though and not ridiculous.  ๐Ÿ™‚

Here's what I do.

I sell items that fit in a Large Padded Envelope which have world wide free postage at BIN $15.75 with Make an Offer.

This offer will be automatically accepted if over $15.00 as this covers my costs and postage worldwide.

This offer will be automatically rejected if under $10.00 as This does not cover my costs and postage world wide.

Any value in between $10.00 and $15.00 will be advised to me.. It depends on price and location as to what I will accept.

Best wishes

It probably varies from seller to seller and it depends how badly you want the item as I think you are only allowed 3 offers on any one item.

I have made offers a few times and whenver I have been accepted, the offers have always been pretty near the asking price

eg $18 instead of the asking price of $19

But rejected at $16 for the same item.

Sellers will vary, depends on how keen they are to get rid of something.

As a general rule though, I would guess you usually can't expect more than 5-10% discount.

Like all negotiations your first offer is not always your final one. making a low offer to get seller to counter then upping yours until you get an greement. You have three offers per item.

eg 1st offer 20% off, seller counters with 5% off, you reply with 10% they settle on 7.5%.

Dont off be insultingly low though you might just on their blocked list as a result. Anything more than 20% I just dismiss and dont even counter.

if your offer is immediately rejected you may be encontering preset offer limits and seller is not personally responding

My experience has been that most sellers will accept between 5 and 10% as above,  if you suggest 20% its going to be rejected or countered.  On small priced items not really worth the hassle.
