Why does ebay let sellers list items they don't even possess.

I wish ebay would have a policy to all sellers if they do not have the items in their possession to sell or the item cannot be sold within 7 days then it cannot be listed.  There are more sellers out their that put items on ebay and they are not even available from the manufacturer or distributor and are just hoping for a shipment.  At the least sellers should be made to advise potential customers that this is the current situation.  I am sick of purchasing items on ebay only to find out the seller doesn't even possess such item.

Do you expect Ebay to go and inspect every sellers warehouse for stock availability,  or that they have commitments from the suppliers,  Ebay is a sales platform,  not a police force .

We often purchase things on Pre order (as buyers) thru B&M stores as well,  and they often arrive late or not at all.   I currently have a rather expensive item on pre order, it is due August 2021,  it will get here.   I am not sure if you have heard there is a world wide pandemic at the moment, literally causing worldwide issues with the supply and logistics sector's.   Don't panic life will go on.

i came across this recently, the seller in Lithuania is selling something that is no longer made. I looked into the sellers feedback and theres was a mix of good and bad so  I sent seller an email asking for additional pictures and they confirmed they didnt actually have item, it was at another location..

I'd be wary of buying from Lithuania at the moment anyway. The postal delay might be horrific. You have probably dodged a bullet.
