Why is it a problem using my Post Office Box for deliveries? It is safe and reliable.

I am getting so cross with sellers refusing to deliver to my Post Office box for small to medium size items. It is my right as a buyer to nominate where I want my purchases delivered to. Post Offices are trustworthy, reliable and safe and, if I am away for any reason, they will hold parcels for me. Over the last week I have had to have 3 auctions cancelled as the sellers would not deliver as I wished. This is ridiculous.

I'll bet you had to apply with your residential address as well though. 🙂

I got my information from  HSBC credit card terms and conditions

I answered the OPs question as to why many sellers will not post tpo PO boxes. I supplied links to the banks chargeback

guides that all confirmed that sending items to PO boxes is a high risk transaction....... if you want to argue with that

information then feel free to argue with the banks and the credit card providers.... The links are in posts above

WHY do you think that some sellers will not post to PO boxes???

please enlighten me. I am all ears

Your cards may be delivered to your postal address like your CC statement. Your billing address is the address you

used to apply for your credit card. Your billing address appears under your name on your credit card statement.

Screenshot below of HSBC credit card application form........ what does it say???

...... No residential address no card simple!!!

Only ship to the billing address, or verify the order if the shipping address is different for the billing address.
Most fraudulent transaction will have a different shipping address than the billing address.

By only allowing shipping to the billing address, or verifying the order by calling the customer you can greatly reduce the chance of a processing a fraudulent transaction.

Address match

If the billing address for the credit card matches the billing address entered for the transaction, you are less likely to become a victim of fraud.

The AVS result that is displayed after a credit card transaction indicates how well the addresses matched. Here is a list of most AVS codes and what they mean:

I tend to agree and don't buy from sellers who won't ship to PO Boxes. I am often away and it is far less secure to leave my mail in the mail box or parcels on the front porch.  I had to provide ID to rent my PO Box and pay every year to keep it. All my mail goes there, including my credit cards. Apart from weekly groceries and some day to day items, I do most of my shopping online but it's only on Ebay that I find sellers using AP that won't post to PO Boxes.

When I queried whether one seller would send to my PO Box she said she had heard that Australia Post did not post to PO Boxes. Once I explained that AP actually owned them she was happy to send.

Anybody want to venture a guess as to why ticketek will only mail tickets to the residential address of the   credit/debit card holder??

In my opinion I think they do it to protect themselves as much as possible from credit card fraud by only mailing

tickets to the residential address of the credit card holder

..... just my opinion though..... how about you??

  http://premier.ticketek.com.au/Content/buyers/delivery.aspx   Paper Ticket Delivery Information

Ticketek will only mail tickets to the residential address of the credit/debit card holder.

We do not send tickets to PO Boxes or business addresses.

If you have purchased concession tickets you are required to present a valid proof of entitlement and photo ID on entry at the venue. Tickets purchased during a pre-sale will not be dispatched until after the advertised general public on-sale date. There are three delivery options:

Re: Why is it a problem using my Post Office Box for deliveries? It is safe and reliable.

In your previous post

"phrase in brackets on the application form (cannot be a po box) next to the registered billing address and ingeneral will

not even mail credit cards to PO boxes due to the high fraud risk."

As it is clear to see from the replies most all other banks post credit cards and debit cards to PO Boxes. The issue was not about a registered address.

I have a registered address on ebay but I still want my darn parcels posted to my PO Box. I have it for a reason 1 for security and 2 I live rural. The postie will not deliver parcel out here anyway.

Re: Why is it a problem using my Post Office Box for deliveries? It is safe and reliable.

you can name all the reasons you like why PO boxes are better and safer for you Harley.

But that is not what the OP asked.

They asked why some sellers will not post to PO boxes..... well it is the same reason that you have a post box it is in their

opinion a better and safer policy personally for them or their business.

It is the same reason the ticketek and in general credit card companies will not post scammer sensitive items to PO boxes.

It is a security risk that they would prefer not to deal with just as some buyers prefer not to deal with sellers who will not post

to PO boxes.

Re: Why is it a problem using my Post Office Box for deliveries? It is safe and reliable.

I agree - no matter what system they may have in the U.S. or elsewhere overseas, the Australia Post Boxes are safe and secure.

Look at the thousands, probably many thousands of companies in Australia - whose mail address is a PO Box.

I also had a PO Box for years - it was much more convenient and much safer than sending my mail to an address, particularly in flats or apartments.

Getting back to the OP, if the seller won't send to a PO Box then you will just have to buy elsewhere.   Can't make 'em.

I think my suggestion about having your mail redirected is good - but I don't know if it costs anything.  You should talk to your PO.

BTW the issue is the registered address. If you use that address as the delivery address and you can prove delivery then

you have a much greater chance of defending a credit card chargeback.

If you send the cc bought item to a po box you have bugger all chance....

Why do you think that ticketek will not deliver tickets to PO boxes??

I also have a PO box for security, but as well there is no actual mail delivery to my house, as a lot of people in rural Australia will know well.
