Why is it not compulsory to leave feedback?

I find it frustrating when I go to the bother to leave feedback which is always positive or at worst neutral (on 2 occasions, with slow postage) for the seller and yet I have had a few sellers not leave feedback. I have sent an email via eBay and no response. When I followed this up with eBay, I was informed that it is not compulsory to leave feedback, which I think is not in the best interest of all enaby users. I understand that we cna get busy & forget, but not to respond is just plain rude. The sellers need our feed back as much as we (the buyers) need theirs. I kknow that some eBay members can use feedback in a very negative way, but please can something be done to resolve this issue. I have kept a record of the sellers who do not leave feedback and won't be using them again.

Q) Why is it not compulsory to leave feedback?

A) because it is voluntary

"I have kept a record of the sellers who do not leave feedback and won't be using them again"  What were you buying from them - goods or feedback?

I think that having found sellers that sell items you want you should not boycott them because they did not leave you feedback.  If you were to buy from them then simply leave them no feedback at all.

As sellers can only leave buyers positive feedback, a member who is only a buyer will always have a 100% rating.  Many sellers think that feedback for buyers is just a glorified transaction count (not me though).

What a strange reaction - so a seller doesn't leave feedback (as is their right) and you are going to miss out on a bargain because of it.

You probaobly won't have to worry about keeping that list, any sellers that read here will most likely add you to their own special list.

BTW - feedback is of no use whatsoever to a buyer. All it is is a tally of what you have bought.

Why is it not compulsory to leave feedback?

I leave feedback when payment is received so all my buyers receive feedback if they pay. Nearly 50% of my buyers don't leave feedback in return. I would never ask a buyer to leave feedback as it is voluntary.

man - travelling - Realistically how do you suggest eBay make feedback compulsory and force a buyer or seller to leave feedback?

Have a fine or penalty for not doing so? Ban a buyer/seller because they didn't leave feedback?

You keep a record of sellers who didnt give you feedback? Why are you on ebay for, really?
Giving feedback is volutuntary, which is how it should be, of course.

On Day 61 have an automatic positive comment entered.

"Thank you for your purchase"

"My item's great, thank you".

Don't like those comments? Leave your own earlier.

You snooze, you lose...

*Disclaimer* I am not advocating for the application of automatic feedback, merely presenting an idea of how a member could be "forced" to leave feedback.

Spoiler
Now watch eBay grab that absolutely absurd idea and run with it, eh? Then they'll tell us "oooohhhhhhh, we're listening to you.... Noooooo, we can't fix a link or do something useful, but we are happy to implement totally idiotic suggestions.

Buyer feedback is merely a record of how many items have been purchased from sellers who leave feedback. Why do you feel the need to show off to the public at large how much you spend on ebay, the feedback tells people nothing else as buyers can only receive pos feedback.

Using your system if I had the choice between a seller who offers poor goods or service but leaves feedback and an exemplary seller who doesn't I should use the inferior seller!

Since sellers can no longer leave negative feedback, I think you will find that many of them no longer take the feedback system seriously - sadly another downfall on eBay's end with making unnecessary changes.

Are you serious?

Did you see the freakin keelhauling I got for commenting in the Rabid Postage Fee section because I only have 69 feedback? They kept saying 69 so often, I thought they were fantasizing!
