Hi, just a question: If you pay for an item and the postage is a Australia Post Parcel Post Bag (500g or 3kg) which has tracking number, shouldn't the seller supply number to buyer. I have had two items last month not show up, both were posted in these bags (500g & 3kg) with tracking number, but both sellers did not supply number and now upon checking with them, they both say they didn't record it and threw away receipt. How am I able to check where the items ended up, Aust Post can't help me? One seller has already refunded without incident, but oher seller says it is not her fault. I still have plenty of time to open INR case, but if you are paying for delivery in these bags with tracking number, shouldn't seller be obliged to supply, which is benefit for both parties in this case.

With a lot of busy sellers it's a time issue having to upload each number is a PITA. They don't produce it unless there is a problem.
While I totally agree with your hbh, I still class it as an extremely integral part of the eBay seller chain of actions. We post 40-60 parcels a day, some Mondays we post 150 parcels, and we make sure to take the time to put every single tracking number in every single time. We have to put them in manually and on a Monday it can take close to an hour, but the fact that when we began doing it it halved our messages (think how many messages you get saying 'where is my item' or 'when is it due') and also affords us an automatic 5-star DSR in postage time and communication, it's worth it's time in gold.
If someone lodges a Paypal dispute saying Item Not Received, Paypal automatically pulls the uploaded tracking information from eBay and gives the seller the Paypal Protection. If you have ONE decent parcel go missing and it auto-helps you, it's worth the time to upload tracking numbers.
Just my .02, take it or leave it.

Easy mistake for a novice casual seller. The tracking is really for seller protection anyway, it doesn't insure your item or give a greater guarantee of it getting there. If it doesn't show and you used paypal you are covered if seller can't produce tracking. So its not your loss.
Did shipping say anywhere that tracking would be provided? I know these satchels have tracking but if seller doesn't say you will be provided with tracking they dont have to.
If it gets posted in a street box, tracking doesn't show until day its going to be delivered anyway, if at all.

Every tracking number I get will track unless it is UPS. Overseas tracking does not update once it arrives in Australia until delevered. Never had a problem with AU tracking number.
Toll Ipec has been the best by far so far!

You need to open a INR case, it's tough for the seller but he/she needs to learn to keep proper records.
It's not hard to keep a receipt in a draw etc for 45 days, thats what bullclips are for, keeping a bunch of receipts together.
When the clip is full, then throw away the old ones, they're already in date order.
I stick the label off the prepaid satchel on a paper marked with the surname and post code.
I collate at the end of the week and file properly, but even the most occasional seller can keep a receipt in a draw.

I know that the seller is not required to supply tracking number, if it is not advertised in posting method, but just keeping record of number or receipt in case no show would be advisable, they even have tracking numbers on ordinary parcel post labels.
I have opened INR case for second item (first missing item already refunded) as still no show for both this morning, and PO can't help with no tracking or receipt number, as seller requested I ask PO. I do feel for sellers, not their fault items went missing. Thanks for all the responses.

I have bought some cards from a seller in Melbourne, which I am also from. I have not received the item after two weeks. I keep asking him to show me the reciept and tracking id. He says the item was sent as an envelope and not parcel. Told him aus post always give out tracking id on all their receipts. I really hate having to open a dispute, but who is in the right here and do I have a chance to recover my payment.

if the item was sent as an envelope, at envelope rate, the seller only has to put postage stamps on it and put it in the mail - there is no tracking number for envelopes.

@chezzy wrote:I thought the satchels could be pre-purchased. That is what I used to do with the 'old style' Parcel Post Plus plastic satchels.
In fact I still have some old stock and sent one off this week - I asked the PO to scan it, it then printed out an "Article Lodgement"
that has an Article ID (Total said 0.00 - Payment not required). I also kept the 'sender to keep' lift and peel sticker which I then stuck on the Article Lodgement. I have not compared my old style satchels to the new ones but if they can be prepaid it would be very easy to pop in a street box and even forget to take the sticker off (if indeed they do have stickers).
I have a batch of the old style 3 kg. express satchels I am using at the moment and the tracking numbers are not showing up on the reciepts. They still scan in as lodged OK but they dont seem to contain the code for the reciept tracking number. I have lodged them at two different post offices with the same result. I am uploading the tracking numbers manually to each sale in the order details so the buyer ( and paypal ) have a record of the number. I have used other old style bags before without this problem.
