ebay policies now allow sellers to add to the postage price stated on sale and the seller does not have to inform you until it is time to pay. best to check with seller that postage price will stay as advised in advert before bidding. do not trust ebay they will not help nor care that you have been ripped off

eBay's policy actually expressly forbids that - the quote for a postage service can only change in price if additional features were requested, or a different serice all together (eg buyer wants signature on delivery rather than standard, or express). 

Unfortunately, though, while I've read of this happening numerous times over the years, I've never read about eBay taking any real action over it. 😞 (Many will probably suggest that eBay is even less inclined to do anything because they get a percentage of any postage that's paid, now).

that would be what a loyal company would do but have been told this afternoon by an ebay rep that ebays policies allow this. so beware

As a seller I've never seen this be ok. 

Unless items are added? But if you're shpping Widget A to Place B and nothing has changed, you shouldn't be able to increase the postage. If it's more than you listed it as then too bad, so sad?!

Personally I would request the seller to cancel your purchase. No way would I put up with that and continue the transaction.

stupidly i did go ahead thinking ebay had morals. 2months of emails then phone calls proved my niaveity. you live and learn i guess, just want to warn other buyers.

the only thing i can find so far is this tip from ebay to sellers-

Tip: If you send an eBay invoice to a buyer or you enter payment details in Selling Manager, the postage charges you enter will override the calculated cost.

I'm pretty sure that is so when you are combining items, you can change the postage, but not make it higher. 

Can you provide details of the transaction - did you buy more than one item, did you want a different postal service? How large was the item? Were you posting it to an overseas country?

was this a purchase from USA or UK where the seller used the Global Shipping Program  GSP??

then yes, you do get additional charges to use the GSP onforwarding system

single item, from my home state. i was ripped off but the moral of the story is ebay do not protect their customers from rouge sellers.
