Hi,
I won an item during the period of time when ebay was inaccessable, although I didn't know it at the time. I had bid a day earlier and had my max bid in place too and was not online when the auction ended. I was pleasantly surprised at the price I won the item for but wasn't aware that there was an issue with ebay at the time.
Anyway, I had already paid for the item before finding out about the issues and I'm now wondering if the seller is obligated to honour the sale or not? I'm not 100% sure if I got the good price because of the outtage but it's a possibility, so I'm not really sure what I'm supposed to do now?
While I did win the item for a good price, I have seen similar items go for around the same amount elsewhere on ebay, albiet they are the exception rather than the rule- my point being that it's not unheard of, but it's also very fortuitous...
I just don't want the seller to lose out if it is down to the tech issues, but OTOH if I did win it fair and square I want that price to be honoured and to receive my item- at the end of the day I guess there's no way of really knowing if I simply snagged a good deal or if the auction was compromised which makes me feel kinda uncomfortable.
Any thoughts? Will sellers be compensated if they did lose out due to the technical glitch? Are sellers obliged to honour the sale regardless or can they reneg?
TIA for any advice.

goodness me dave - you comment on all manner of buying topics and hardly buy anything at all ebay according to previous posts you have made
maybe you should refrain from commenting on buying on the same basis

About 2/3rdths of my feedback is for buying.
Is that not sufficient? Or should I assume you're playing the member rather than the issue?
As you seem to be, by your posted comments, a seller, would not the same criteria apply to you? Or is it a case of 'do as I say'?

davewil I am noting comments you said in an earlier thread regarding AP and the introduction of cubing on mass I think it was - you were pretty insistent at the time that you purchased very, very little over the internet.
Not going to buy into the playing the member comment ... whatever

You already have. Or you have chosen to take a single comment out of context. Same result.
And my comment about your apparent status stands. Most of your comments seem to be from a seller's perspective. Plus you should know better than to tar an ID with a brush that might not reflect the member's ACTUAL experience.
If it were me, and it is, I would take the facts of a posting to heart rather than my perception of the person offering the facts. That, of course, wouldn't allow personal attacks, so you probably wouldn't be interested.

greylion if there are people selling online below cost (other than stock run outs) then I would guess their problems are far greater than an ebay glitch. If you list low gambling on the bidding going high then you had better be prepared for the end result...its just that....a gamble.
If this is the paltform you choose to sell on perhaps you have to roll with the punches glitches and all.

I am not taking your comments out of context ... in a post you made on these boards, you were simply very, very insistent that you, as an individual, did not buy much on-line (insert full-stop)

I don't. Full Stop.
But does that make my on-topic comments irrelevent? In your dreams.

retailtherapist - my point is that they could have ended with a price below cost if nobody could bid in the last couple of hours and they had a start price below cost. Nothing wrong with having a start price below cost if you've done your research. Most bidding happens in the last hour or less.
Nobody can be sure where those auctions would have finished, but there can be no doubt that many sellers had listings end at a price lower than if eBay was functioning.
BIN sellers (including myself) also potentially lost profit because they were effectively offline for many hours, but not as damaging as potential loss on auctions. Would still be nice if they offered some free listings as a make up though 🙂

Just a quick update to say that the seller posted the item today, so looks like they're ok with the price, so even though I did get a good deal the seller is obviously happy enough with my final bid to agree to the sale 🙂
Thanks for your feedback,
