If an auction has at least 2 days before it finishes, are you able to retract your bid, when you are the highest bidder? There are only 7 bidders at this stage but, there were no new bidders yesterday, I believe there will be quite a few more before it ends.

The reasons are very limited, things like you have bid the wrong amount, if you choose that option you are meant to enter the correct bid straight away, if you have been unable to contact the seller and a couple more I can't remember. It is not acceptable to withdraw a bid just because you have changed your mind so you will have to choose one of the available options.
Bid withdrawals are recorded against your account on your feedback page and if a seller sees you have withdrawn a bid and checks to see you have others recorded they can report you and you may be restricted by ebay from bidding and only allowed to use BIN or you can actually have your buying privileges withdrawn completely for a time so it is not something you should do lightly or often.

You need to have a valid reason for retracting your bid not just a change of mind, and it has to be done with more than 12 hours before the end of the auction.

What is considered a valid reason for retracting a bid? The auction has 2 days and 8 hours to go !
