did not receive item - what is the best way to go about it?

hello, i live in the uk but i bought something from ebay au and although the seller did sent me a tracking number there is no tracking information available. its been almost 3 weeks since i paid for the item and the seller does not reply to any of my messages. what is the best way to get my money back? if i open a case with paypal do i need a police report?

No, you do not need a police report. Just open a Item Not Received case.

Have you tried entering the tracking number the seller gave you on the Australia Post website? If not, you can do that here: http://auspost.com.au/track/



It will only show tracking events within Australia, but it might give you some reassurance (for the time being, and where the seller has not). International mail delivery times can vary, but it could give you a time frame for if/when the parcel left Australia.

Have you checked the tracking number with Australia Post? Whilst non-communication by the seller is bad form, 3 weeks is not really a long time to wait for a parcel from the other side of the world. UK to Aust is can take 4 weeks easily at the moment.



You have up to 45 days from the date of payment to open a dispute with Paypal, so it is not urgent yet. I would give it another week or two.

thanks a  lot for your reply. i tried to track it but it says that the product is not trackable. i paid $40 for shipping which i think is more than enough for a trackable service.

Yes, you can simply open an Item Not Received dispute, which gives you another 44-45 days for it to be resolved. So, it also does allow time for it to arrive if that's the case.


 


Regarding international tracking, as a seller this is something I have noticed. Technically, as stated on the Aus Post Postage website calculator, international Registered Post does not provide or guarantee tracking. You're paying for the signature on delivery but not tracking. Express Post overseas is trackable but is considerably more costly.

If you are trying to track the parcel you need to check your local postal tracking site.



Once the parcel reaches the UK if it is trackable it will be on the UK site and not on the Australian Site.



As far as tracking goes, regardless of what price you paid for postage, it all depends on what facilities the UK site have to track parcels from Australia.



If you are able to provide the tracking number someone here may be able to work out whether or not is is fully trackable.

You only have 20 days to escalate to a claim once a dispute is opened.


If not escalated in that time the dispute will close.

this is the tracking number RQ022629190AU.. i have already spoken with parcel force uk and they told me that nothing is coming up to their system. i also asked from the seller to scan the receipt so that i can see when was the item shipped etc but i got no reply.

That number shows as an International service but there are No Events recorded.  This usually means that it has not been scanned yet.
