Anybody used the new (Oct 12) eBay shipping programme? Inadvertently clicked a BIN with a super fast shipping option and then discovered I had to pay import duties through an external shipping agent Pitney Bowes Inc. User Agreement indicated that eBay and Pitney Bowes Inc. would use any means to recover unpaid fees (not for the seller). How it works! You buy the item (never on purpose after this and this example is a US$11.00 laptop charger). Then you got to checkout. You pay a $5.99 shipping fee to the seller on top of the $11.00 price. Then you pay insance shipping on the standard USPS shipping. Pitney Bowes a $4.88 Import Duties/Tax/Brokerage Fee based on the value of this item. Here, and in the UK, you would not pay anything to get that in. The shipper then ships it to Pitney Bowes Inc.'s central shipping centre. Then it is shipped to you. And the standard postie arrives with it at your door. The tracking number is not useable on USPS or Australia Post's sites and the hyperlink on the item goes nowhere. US sellers can elect to use this service under shipping tools. I will not be buying anything from sellers shipping in this fashion again. If the item does not list USPS First Class Airmail or USPS Priority Mail be careful. Feel free to send me a message if you need to know more. eBay and the shipper have more rights than the seller with regard to unpaid items and Pitney Bowes make money on the shipping and fees as our Customs don't get a cent. Fees for fees sake... Thanks and good buying..

"You obviously have no idea how to do a board search if you think leader has been offline since October.
And you obviously do not read other threads on the boards...if you did you would see that leader is here regularly."
I was referring to the eBay purchases and sales of the poster, not the activity in 'here'. But thanks for noticing. I took a look at your recent buys from the US, I noticed that you were more inclined to use free shipping for the majority of your items. I trust you would not be a regular user of the eBay 'Global Shipping Program'? Why so eager to defend it? In recent days I have seen how it operates. I will just leave it to the relevant authorities to query eBay and Pitney Bowes. If ever it gets changed...you're welcome!

Why are so many (well it isn't many, it is the same few but with different ids) defending the money gouging practices of eBay, the dodgy selling tactics, the dodgy warranty scams etc?
you would think the people who buy a lot, and the honest sellers, would like eBay to stop the pilfering On all these levels?

Possibly because we know how to work within the rules and utilise the tools available, thereby generally protecting ourselves from gouging and dodgy sellers.
Not to mention dodgy buyers. You forgot those. At least with eBay and Paypal you get some form of service for your money.

Since when did buying on ebay become a mandatory requirement of breathing ?

cowabunga I understand your frustration with the warranty problem and other issues and yes every honest seller and buyer would prefer these problems didn't occur. With the millions of transactions which go through ebay the reality is that it is a very small percentage of ebay transactions which cause problems.
Some of these problems are caused by dodgy sellers but there are as many problems caused by dodgy buyers. Similar problems occur off eBay whether through websites or even in traditional brick and mortar stores so ebay can't be totally blamed when things don't go right, either from the buyers perspective or from the sellers perspective.
Unfortunately the reality is that there is a very small percentage of people who are not honest and will try and find loopholes to gain an unfair advantage and when this happens it is not a pleasant experience for the other party.
On the odd occasion I have had to deal with a less than honest trading partner, both as a buyer and a seller, I have tried to treat it as a learning experience so hopefully I will able to handle it better if the same issue arises again.

Jensmanchester,
absolutely.
however warning others should be allowed. Some here seem to take a very condescending view.
i don't see the issue with posting the problem.

I purchased a large and heavy item (25kg) on ebay last week and the shipping from USA to Canberra was only $31 Aust. USPS would have been an order of magnitude more expensive. It is coming by air by fedex and the Pitney Bowes blurb popped up and mentioned a sting of about $4 to cover customs duties or some such crap and I thought " that can't be levied as Aust does not charge any such fee for a $120 item" Anyway I paid it because that made shipping $35 all up which seemed a good deal. I expect that Pitney Bowes will be pulled up for this misrepresentation at some point. In the mean time the item is in transit in Honolulu as I type (just 4 days since leaving Texas) and looks like being with me this week so I think I would prefer to use the Ebay USA global shipping programme.

You paid $4 for a $125 item weighing 25kgs, I paid $4.88 for an item that weighed 500g and cost $11. And I could not track it, and it certainly took more than four days. It took that to get to the Pitney Bowes centre! ?:| I could not see the item you bought from the US on your recent buys? You must rock extra eBay IDs like everybody else? You did alright. I am not sure how anybody could get 25kg to Australia for $31 at that speed? Not sure why it went from Texas to Hawaii? I will surely take your word for it. Handy to know. Have given up shipping anything over 2kgs due to cost.

Hi Pay-Back,
I thought you may wish to check out this seller using Global.
The item which is the same size as a USB stick will post to Australia via Global for $61 Aud.
I just can't get over the price and remain dumbstruck.
Would love your opinion as this item does not weigh more than 22grams!!!!
Cheers vicksterm69
