i want to be able to select the country of origin for all my purchases

as a buyer i want to be able to have the ability to select where my goods come from,

i want to be able to have it saved in my prefrences, or at least to have the abilty to search only from the countries that I choose.

i want this to be made available on every purchase.

What did eBay say when you told them this?

Good luck with it, many who can't be bothered to Google this information for themselves have demanded the same thing

I doubt any of them have 'told eBay' to make this possible though, as they believe eBay read here (they do not)

I haven't heard anything from eBay, but the more people who ask the more likely we are to get it.

That would assume that eBay read board posts (they don't) and that they would prioritise such a change many years after people on the boards started complaining about it (they won't).

As a general rule of thumb, if the seller is not registered in Australia, their goods aren't in Australia.

Another hint is long delivery times. Like more than a fortnight.

You didn't ask, you demanded.

8 of the last 12 sellers that have left feedback for you are registered in Hong Kong / China - look at their feedback for that.

One click of the button before you purchase from a seller will give you that information, the chances are that if they say the item is in Darwin/Sydney/Chullora etc they are lying. They may well have a warehouse there but that certainly doesn't mean all their listings are there.

That attitude presupposes that ebay actually takes notice of what their customers want from the site.

I can assure you that they do not.  Ebay's sandpit....ebay's rules.

If you do not like it then you do not have to buy here.

I am trying to find an alternative.

It would be good if you could set the preference for eg Australia only as your default, instead of having to tweak every individual search every time, but you can't.

But what you want is even more complicated, a set of nations where you can tick the boxes.

I don't think you're ever going to see it and there are a few reasons why I think this.

-the first is profit. Ebay wants to show you, the consumer, as many items as possible. A person mught say, for instance, that they really only want to buy from Australia or China or wherever, but if they actually see exactly what they want but it is from eg USA, they may well be tempted. Ebay knows that. It is in their interests to help sales along, not restrict them.

-the second is ebay isn't awfully good at accurately showing exactly where an item is located in any case. If you care to scroll through buyer complaints on these boards, a biggie, over & over, is that some things show up as located in Australia but they really aren't. This is partly because some overseas sellers mark their items as being in Australia. It could be the truth in that they may have a warehouse here. But in other cases, it is deceptive. You can often pick up on a likely deception, as dave said, by the estimated delivery dates.

Ebay is really only interested in showing you items that are available to you. What country they come from is not high on their agenda. You can, however, select options to view Australia only items and furthermore, restrict it to various km radius limits from home. I'd imagine ebay thinks this is specific enough for most buyers.

-what you are asking for is probably not something that I have seen many people request. There are a lot who want the Australia only option. But I can't say I have come across many who say something like, I only want Aust, UK, Germany or whatever. I guess they exist, but for most people international is good enough. Ebay or any business will usually cater more for the majority.

-the option you ask for isn't widely available elsewhere on other similar sales sites.

Re: i want to be able to select the country of origin for all my purchases

Thank you for your feedback.
I have on one occasion found the option to select the countries I want to buy from, but only once.
There is an Indian eBay but it doesn't appear to sell internationally.
I will keep on searching for a better way of buying.

A lot of Indian sellers sell to Australia but often list on the US site.
