item gone walkabout

Is it me or some intrinsic system failure ?

My latest item was supposed to be delivered within a few days 268Km north of Sunshine VIC postal centre to the clearly  noted VIC State delivery address , but latest tracking advise notes item at Welshpool WA , 3,400KM west

Western Australia ? No typo error here !!!

Is now 7 days overdue

How can this be ?

Also I was advised that I am not the owner until the item is delivered , I am sure this is incorrect as I have of course paid for the item before it is posted by the Seller so effectively point-of-sale , however I might be wrong , does anyone know consumer law regarding this issue, as can have ramifications for Buyers regarding any disputes

Thankyou

ps - any other  Buyers with similar delivery issues out there ?

Suggest you phone AP on 137678 and they'll give you all the info you need regarding your misplaced parcel.

You may have paid the seller for the delivery cost but it was the seller who purchased the service from AP, they are also the ones that have any proof of posting etc which means when a claim is made the sender has to do it unless they complete the form assigning the right over to the buyer and send it along with the proof of posting to the buyer.

Once the buyer receives the item they have the right to make a claim for damage as they have the proof of how the item was packaged, for the seller to make the claim the buyer would have to complete the assignment form and send it back to the seller with the packaging.

Laws about delivery have no impact on ebay or Paypal policies which every member agrees to.

thanks everyone for their replies - all data is helpful

I probably was not clear in that I should have stated :

Regarding my last item as a Buyer , I discovered via Auspost tracking that the item has been dispatched by the Seller ( no  issues there) but instead of being in transit to a distination 250KM north , is currently in transit 3,400KM west and also a week overdue.

Now maybe an additional round trip of almost 7,000Kms is standard procedure for a 250km delivery but I suspect not.

So does this happen periodically to other Buyers , enough to garner some strong suggestions for change

Also the other issue that came to my attention during this issue is under Australian Consumer law when does an item that is paid for online become legally the payers property ((and so under new owner's (Buyer's)  jurisdiction?) )

Auspost seems to consider only upon delivery - means that an item could be tampered with during transit - with the Sellers permission or tecit permission ( under Auspost consideration is still the Seller's property) - and the recipient (buyer) could only claim " not as described" , if changes / damage are detected and proven

With regards to items from WA; I had a parcel from rural WA go to Sunshine West sorting centre - In Melb West of city - I'm in Melb North of city. It finally meandered to the local Thomastown sorting centre to be resorted & arrived safely 2 weeks & 3 days (allowing for weekends) after I purchased the item. Full tracking helped but was farcical!

AFAIK there is a Welshpool in Vic - maybe your parcel took the scenic route?

I've had international parcels redirected from Austria before!

Years ago AP prospective employees had to take a reading & writing test; In English; To be considered for employment. I wonder if this still occurs?

So long as you don't blame (or punish/feedback) the seller all is well.

Many AP items go for a real  tour, wish I could travel the country for the price of postage ! LOL

Hi I may be able to shed some light here I used to work for a courier company and often sorting systems are the same. What often happens is items are sorted via a computer and route system.

5 parcels in a row look like this   Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Sydney, Perth. What happens is a hicup or mistiming in the addition so that the order ends up Melbourne, Brisbane,Sydney,Adelaide, Perth. So the auto sorting system sends the item to the Adelaide truck and the Adelaide item to the sydney sorting area.

Happens very often and is very hard to stop the draw back is if your item ends up on a Perth trailer its like 4 or 5 days there direct or if the trailer goes via melbourne or Adelaide from Sydney which they often do once in Melb or SA they are not unloaded so your item is stuck on a truck for up to 7 or 8 days in one direction before another computer system (or human sorter depending on the depots process) realises the item is in the wrong place and send it back to where it should be.

Thats just one example there are plenty of others like  a reading error in the destination ect ect.

Hope that helps and isnt 2 confusing
