item gone walkabout

Is it me or some intrinsic system failure ?

My latest item was supposed to be delivered within a few days 268Km north of Sunshine VIC postal centre to the clearly  noted VIC State delivery address , but latest tracking advise notes item at Welshpool WA , 3,400KM west

Western Australia ? No typo error here !!!

Is now 7 days overdue

How can this be ?

Also I was advised that I am not the owner until the item is delivered , I am sure this is incorrect as I have of course paid for the item before it is posted by the Seller so effectively point-of-sale , however I might be wrong , does anyone know consumer law regarding this issue, as can have ramifications for Buyers regarding any disputes

Thankyou

ps - any other  Buyers with similar delivery issues out there ?

Re: item gone walkabout

Well the item has been delivered last Monday (was correctly addressed) , and I do note that once the error was discovered Auspost went into high gear returning it to the correct State  - I am disappointed that Auspost did not bother notifying me as my phone number is on the package

My alarm was made worse as the previous item which originated on the west coast USA went on a convoluted tour including Ohio and finally exported from central-far-north Chicago , rather than just shipped down the westcoast to L.A. then on the next flight out, like 2 weeks sooner

Now this leaves the next issue that being when does an item become legally the Buyers' - Auspost seems to think upon delvery.

If it's coming from the US, it becomes the buyers when it's delivered. If it's being posted in Australia to somewhere else in Australia, it becomes the buyers when it's posted. That's my understanding anyway!
