Re: item received is not working

1st up leave factual neg feedback to show others the seller is not willing to help.

Assume you paid with paypal.

If yes you can open a dispute for item not as described and escalate to a claim as soon as the system allows and paypal will contact you about returning the item at your cost.

It is then up too you to fight with paypal if the cost to return is not cost effective to get your refund.

Some things you should only by from Australia as the cost to return is often way over the top compared to the refund.

Re: item received is not working

Americans use 110V we use 240V so if its mains powered, I'm afraid its not really the sellers fault

Was it you who asked about this before?

The seller is not to blame at all in this case.  There is nothing in the listing to indicate that it should work in Australia....it is an American listing which makes no mention of international adapters.

Did you ask if an adapter was needed before you bought?

There is no way you would win a paypal claim and bad feedback would be unfair to the seller....it is entirely your fault.

Re: item received is not working

If you are the same person who asked about this before what made you think you would get a different response this time? Entirely your own fault and you could have actually caused a fire which could have damaged other people's property as well as your own!

Interesting point phorum, what if item starts a fire burns your house down, my guess is insurance company would refuse claim as item did not meet australian standards.

Re: item received is not working

USA 110 Volt plug  does not fit Aussie 240 V power point socket without adaptor. The adaptors won't change the voltage however - need a transformer to do that.

So!.. Need more info what happened before fred-fred can make this conclusion that it wasn't necessarily the seller's fault.

Was the product designed for 110 or 240 V? ...if it was 110V - what power lead was supplied? if it was a North American plug what did the buyer do to insert the US plug into a Aussie power point? . can't do this normally. Does not fit.

North American plug has 2 parallel metal electrical contact blades for active(A)  and neutral (N) - It may have a round earth pole as well.

Aussie 240V is either 2 or 3 blades with the A and N angled. (2 angle blades for double insulated appliance  that does not need earthing).

Re: item received is not working

Hi all, some items are auto voltage sensing, but as some have said already, you should not be able to fit a normal US type plug directly into our power point socket. If one of those loose fitting, and imop, dangerous adaptors were supplied, then  the seller would have been aware that the item could well end up in a different power socket, with a higher voltage. Sometimes it is not worth buying US voltage stuff, as the stepdown transformer is much bigger and heavier, and more costly that buying the product here that is suited to our power supply in the first place. I have been in the electronics industry for many years, and have lost count at the number of destroyed items that have landed on my workbench due to this issue. Much of the problem is due to the price difference in Aus and US items. For example, a top brand guitar amplifier can be shipped in, with a stepdown transformer to operate it, and still get enough change to go towards a guitar as well. On larger items, it can be worthwhile, but smaller things, best forget it and go local.
