I am sure people are not going to be interested to know that you did not read the terms and conditions of the site you have used to buy your dress, or the terms of the site you used to pay for it.

If you had even glanced at your paypal receipt you would have seen that you had 45 days in which to open a dispute.  If you chose not to avail yourself of this free insurance it is not rally ebay or paypal's fault.

If you funded your paypal paymen with a credit card or Visa debit card you could try a chargeback through your bank.

Re: purchased and tricked

the same thing happened to me last year and I lost $350.00 i think the overseas sellers know that you only have 45days and play on that and keep you waiting know that after 45 days that you cant do a thing and if you open a case they play dumb and the they get closed down and open another store as the one that done it to me paypal was made aware of this by me and said that i couldnt do a thing so beware!!!

of course they know you only have 45 days (+a further 20 days after you start the dispute), everyone who USES paypal knows that, because paypal tell you so in your confirming email.

Re: purchased and tricked

geez folks, you're a bit rough, eh?

Yeah, yeah, the OP didn't know the rules, but they're not the first people to come here with a problem like this, eh? Before they didn't know, now they know. An expensive way to learn I should imagine. I'm not sure there's any need to stick the boot in, is there? I think that eBay banned keelhaulings for September!

But OP, the other posters are right. You really can't blame eBay for this at any time and in this case you can't blame PayPal either. Even though you weren't aware of the rules, they are there for you to read and are given to us often. I'm not sure how else you want eBay and PayPal to alert you of the rules of safe trading.

Be cross at the seller, keep in mind the 45 day limit for next time with PayPal, and the 60 day limit in which you can leave feedback if you desire - remember feedback is voluntary (no one can make you leave it if you don't want to) and it is there that you can tell others about your transaction experience.

One thing that you did do great that no one has commmented on, is that you tried to communicate with your seller and sort out the problem before leaving them a negative attitude. Lots of newer buyers don't do that, so kudos to you for that.

Re: purchased and tricked

I think part of the trouble in here is that quite a lot of the people posting are experienced sellers.

Sometimes the consensus seems to be that a buyer should know to check out this and that and should have read every condition.

The plain fact is that people who are new to it all can and do miss things, even if they think they have had a look at the terms and conditions.

Now, I know about the 45 day limit, but I can't say I have ever noticed it written when I use paypal, I usually just see transaction approved, return to ebay.

Now I am not doubting for a moment it must be there, I am just saying I have never noticed it up there on the screen.

It's obvious that every condition will have an expiry limit, but I can understand how a person new to ebay could be strung along, could have goodwill and have the wrong thing done by them.

If they have a record in their messages of the seller asking several times for extensions, I can't see why ebay itself could not issue some sort of strike against the seller.

I realise that paypal may not be able to issue any refund, but if the written evidence is there of  someone being strung along, an ebay strike would be fair.

The other thing I have found amongst my friends is none of them realised the bit about how if they had a dispute, they would need to pay for signed for postage of the item, back to the seller.

At a guess, I would say a majority of small time buyers are unaware of a lot of the conditions on ebay. That is not ebay's fault, but it might mean they could look to improve how the information is presented, or where it is presented.

Re: purchased and tricked

I doubt it; your post was the most sensible and balanced of all the posts (including the OP's - Smiley Tongue)

No, crikey*mate, I was not referring to you ... the opposite actually .

I find your posts to be helpful and compassionate

Unlike some who seem to take great pleasure by putting the boot in

Regular posters who, as soon as someone comes onto the boards and admits making a mistake, by maybe trusting a seller, or trusting ebay, maybe not having a full understanding of the rules, whatever, these people like to belittle them

They like to show some sort of superiority over others, when in fact they actually show how small they really are ! .

Everyone makes mistakes, and some come here for advice (and maybe a little compassion) but get get hit by the sanctimonious few who seem to derive pleasure from rubbing salt into the wound .

It is one thing that has definitely improved with these new boards.

On the old boards, as soon as you criticized these sanctimonious few, they would report you, and your post would be deleted, right or wrong.

.

Fortunately this does not happen now, they do not wield that power now.

.

This is supposed to be a community, unfortunately some seem to be sad individuals .

I find it amazing that people continue to trample and be-little people for what? They believe they have superior intelligence or they were the school yard bully? To me there is no such thing as a stupid question. If it was they would not ask. To others it may seem to be stupid but some one has taught them the answer already at some stage, so why cant they just answer without the boots an snide remarks. For gods sake your adults not children people. Funny how hiding behind a computer screen makes some of these people Rambo's. If they tried that in a face to face confrontation the results may just get them into a whole world of bother and maybe a bruised nose with it. There will be the usual replies of "I say it to them face to face". Sorry but I simply wont believe you because I know and seen the type. Sad fact is they do have good answers but just have to stick in that snide remark for some reason. I would love to know the reasons for it myself.
